Predictable, but I ended up ordering the Volvo XC40 R Design Pro. I needed to look at SUV type vehicles to have the height to get in and out as easily as possible and when I first started looking there were quite a few to consider. Slowly the list came down, the GLA disappeared and the new one is an unknown (but judging by the price of the other Mercs it’s likely to be at the top end), the same with the Tiguan, the T-Roc went up a huge amount, the Mini went and then came back with higher prices, the Kuga came back but was really pricey, so it ended up with the Volvo being almost a no brainer especially as it’s AP came down. Price wise it’s very competitive, spec wise it’s really good in pro trim, and gut feeling wise it felt like the right one. And I’m obviously not alone ?. I’m pretty new to the scheme but I’d bet there’s always one car that stands out from the crowd and that seems to be the XC40 right now. I’ve always been a hot hatch buyer so it’s a proper departure for me, but needs must, and to be fair if the compromise ends up being a really smart SUV then that’s hardly a thing to be sorry about. BTW if my experience with Ford is anything to go by you’ll have a good time with the Kuga, I’ve had a Focus ST for the last 4 years and it’s been spot on. Not one problem over that time. Hopefully you have the same experience. ?
