That big beastie is a Yucca Plant. When it’s finished flowering you should cut down the stalk to encourage new flowers. They don’t flower until they’re fully grown and they don’t flower every year, either.
We have/had them at the top of the drive. I say have/had because we’ve been trying to kill the beggers for 30 years – they block the view of the road when pulling out of the drive and the leaves mocro-scratch the paintwork as the car brushes past. We have chainsawed them to the ground, dug out the roots and applied poison to the soil they grow in, and they still come back!
