Forget about cheques indeed, Motability would save a fair few bob if the payment was paid directly into our accounts by BACS instead of printing full colour cheques and posting them to us. The manual handling, printing, cheque blanks and postage costs add probably another £5 per cheque; BACS would be automatic once the box on your online file was ticked to say good condition bonus awarded.

Of course, there would be issues with people not keeping their data up to date – but we already receive our disability payments by BACS, so its not like we don’t know how it works. And the xmas feeling of receiving a cheque…

We stopped cheque payments several years ago at my work, saved so much money, time & effort – someone had to buy in pre-printed cheque blanks (expensive), print the cheques off, bung them in the folder inserter (bought purely for this job at £9000), collect the envelopes, run them through the franking machine, sort the results into the Royal Mail boxes (they require pre-sort now, no more handing over a big sack..) etc etc x 1000’s for Motability numbers.

In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.
