E5008 vs Ariya

We’ve been able to order from June, the Ariya was always the car we liked most but hesitated to order one as my mums got one and she lives very close / I drive it many times when taking her to her hospital appointments if my siblings can’t

When the e5008 joined the scheme I must admit I was hoping the price would be similar to when the e3008 first joined (think it was 500) so was disappointed to see 4700

of course we’ve driven the Ariya many times, the advantages are it comes with so much kit as standard in the evolve trim eg sunroof (which is 950 in the e5008) 360 camera (600 for the Peugeot) electric seats (1800 for Peugeot) heated front and rear seats /steering wheel(Peugeot is only front but does have wheel) the Nissan also has pro pilot which is really good for motorways drives, a digital rear view mirror, self park etc etc

We test drove the e5008 while we did like it it’s got a few flaws, the position of the PRND is on the dash, I’m 6ft1 and have the seat quite back so it’s annoying to constantly reach for it if needing to do a quick u turn

it doesn’t come with auto hold, we had the previous 3008 before our current q3 and managed but it’s one of those things that once you don’t have it you realise how much you use it

as mentioned above it doesn’t come with 360 cameras / sunroof (kids want one) those cost 1550 in total

Overall the drive was good on the e5008 tho the brake was very spongy for the first 20% of putting your foot on it but the Ariya wins it for us so we will be ordering one this week, driving up from London to Nissan Aldershot who are offering 750 off ontop of the 750 mota are offering

both cars suit our needs it was just a matter of not wanting to have two of the same car but I guess it being such a good choice for us it makes the most sense

AP of Nissan 3000 (with nappa leather in blue) 1500 mota / dealer discount plus 250 GCB

AP of Peugeot 5000 (with added sunroof 360 camera (250 dealer discount 750 mota payment

if you’ve read this far thank you just a little post of the debate I’ve been having in my head since August, here’s a question to see if you read this far😂 I know others on the forum are eligible for two mota cars, if you have two what do you have, if you can only get one but were able to get two, which second one would you get?

Something else I forgot mention is the cars we test drove but didn’t suit our needs, family of 5, 3 of the 5 having disabilities

ioniq 5, Tucson, enyaq, ev6, kodiaq, Tiguan, ix1/2, I’m sure I’m forgetting one or two

2 Motability cars? Blimey. I have enough difficulty trying to decide on 1 😂

Just to say that I am completely with you on how irritating it is not to have AutoHold when you have been used to it. We recently handed back a BMW X1, which I have to say was the best Motability car that we’d ever had and was nigh on perfect for us, but 3 years into ownership of it the one thing that still irritated me was the lack of AutoHold. I’d had it on at least half a dozen previous cars (Motability and private) and I found it a complete pain in the a*se to have to sit with my foot on the brake or apply the handbrake every time I came to a stop. We now have a Tucson which has it (it was an ‘essential’ feature of our next car) and I am SO relieved to have it back!

I’m surprised that the Ariya was suitable for you if some of the above weren’t. I can’t think of anything else on the scheme that’s like the 5008, short of the van type vehicles. If your family is entitled to two Motability cars, I’d be tempted to use the allowance for one to buy a private car (possibly second hand) that is perfect for the occasions that the other (Motability) car isn’t, but maybe that’s not an option for you?

Glosguy im afraid that after having the Ariya with its many many features (just like your Tucson) the headache will be worse in 3 years time as they’re full of features just like the auto hold that could become “must haves” in future cars

I’ve never looked into private @GlosGuy, my first ever car was a motability car 11 years ago, don’t know what my insurance would be on a car living in central London, I know mota can give you a letter saying you haven’t made a claim

im a carer for 3 people in my household and 4 if including mum who I part care for if needed which recently has been a lot, motability saves me the headache I see my friends go through with private cars, if I did ever go private I’d want something like an x4/6 x5 (maybe the ix3 new version will be on the scheme in the future loool) I can afford a 10/15k down payment then 310 monthly I guess but I don’t know what that’ll get me I’ve never looked into it

Surprised the Kodiaq / X Trail isn’t suitable but, the e5008 is, unless you want electric?

You’d get something decent for that, especially second hand, but if you live in Central London then insurance will be high and you have the worry of theft etc so in your situation I’d probably stick with Motability, in spite of its limitations.

On a positive note, if the e5008 inherits the same issues as the e3008, then you have made the right decision going for the Ariya.

see I knew I forgot one, we also test drove the x trail @kezo my dad found the x trail / kodiaq uncomfortable and I read the e5008 seats have science behind the comfortably so maybe that’s why he preferred that, but he’s happy with the Ariya too

Optional AGR (Aktion Gesunder Rücken) seats, certified by German Posture experts (or so they say). They have multiway movements for the driver and front passenger and are ventilated, with newer versions have massage front seats. Vauxhall has had them for years in many of their models.

The comfiest car I, have ever sat in was a Citreon from old and newer models, with extra HD foam still retain the edge over many mainstream cars.

Skoda offer optional Ergo seats, which are much the same thing as AGR.
