Well I phoned SSE this morning and I’ve been doing the maths ever since! They say they don’t actually have an EV tariff but a day and night tariff (economy 7) that ev owners use.
Now the complicated bit. If you’re a new customer they say you get 31% discount for 1 year but looking at the small print it’s 31% for the day rate and 15% for the night rate! So that’s 27.73p day and 16.67 night and 10.22p per day standing charge.
After one year and you renew your contact for another year your rate is 36.17 day and 18.23night and 10.22p per day standing charge.
Compared to Power NI ev rate which is 33.49 day and 18.43 night with 9.79p per day standing charge.
Click energy tariff is 35.09 day and 15.05 night with a 9.88p per day standing charge.
So my conclusion is that SSE would be cheaper in the 1st year. The second year I think Power ni or click energy would be better but would need to work out if I would use more units at night or daytime. Just don’t know how easy it is to keep switching suppliers!!
