Then yes you should be able to.
It depends by local authority eg Newcastle they calculate a monthly budget for the school travel and it’s paid monthly in advance. Whereas Northumberland where we live we submit a form at the end of each month and it’s then reimbursed.
Give the SEN transport team at your local authority a shout and see if they do it, if they offer up any arguments then just state that they will have to provide a taxi then as you simply can’t afford it anymore.
Its amazing how quick they change their mind once you do that as the costs are far more for providing that which Sen children are entitled to.
For eg my daughter would require the taxi, driver, 2 escorts for 5 hrs of a day. even if we call it £10 an hour per person that’s £150 a day just in wages before the double taxi fares at around £70.
So the LA’s are usually very keen for parents to do it they just don’t really advertise the fact that you can transport a child yourself and receive the fuel costs.
