Morning Mike, I completely understand how you feel. If I were closer I’d come with you. If the TV’s are connected to an aerial you could view HD from a rooftop aerial.
However there is a couple ofs negative to doing this as stores like these have highly unnatural bright lights, which gives a false sense of viewing.
The other is all TV’s are on whats called store demo mode. This is a bigger sales ploy than above As they want you to walk into shop with the TV’s stragically as you approach them the brightest TV’s pop as they catch your eyes. As you get up to them there is a TV just beyond it or sitting closely next to it slightly off axis from when you walk in that is brighter and so on. It plays with your mind to make you pay more than you need or want.
The other thing they do is place different size TV’s all next to each other, naturally a bigger set always looks better.
Richer sound use to be an excellent shop untill its owner gave each employee the company through equal shares. Since then its more competitive on a shop vs shop basis and will be bias to what they have in stock in their shop and sadly their revies have dropped overall.
So going into these type of shops won’t give you what your going to be viewing from your own armchair as @wigwam will tell you. When you go into these types shop there will a far greater number of LCD TV’s competeting agains’t each other from lots of different manufacturers ranging from everthing on my guide above. On the otherhand there are only an handful of OLED TV’s from a select few manufactures, because you can’t buy a bad OLED set there is less there is is less that will play with your mind.
I bought my LG G1 OLED blind and in a similar situation to you I had a policy mature and blew the full £2k it on the G1 because it had an EVO (also known as EX) panel as it was the latest technology, because it was advertised as having a 20% brighter panel. It was no brighter than my previous set side by side and I regret to this day not buying the Hisense A9G that my parents had and was on offer at the time.
In reality there will be very littles difference between the LG A2 and Phillips 707 for your needs. The Phillips is only a tad brghter in HDR mode and in reality you wouldn’t notice or would you watch much if any HDR content. The real difference to you would be its has a better sound output but you have hearing aids anyway and the Ambiligh if that tickled your pickle 🙂 The Hisense Wigwam has is also more akin to the LG C1/2
The choice is ultimately down to you
