Hi des – the Kona is a great car with good range and an honest assessment of real world range from the manufacturer.
But how you drive it makes a big difference – when I first got my Kona ultimate late July – for the first month my range varied emmensly.
All down to me discovering what the car could do and also learning the new ways of driving an EV as opposed to my Prius Phev that was my last car – the Prius taught me to accelerate gently in traffic and coast when I could and this allowed me to get usually over 30 miles before going onto the engine.
Back to the Kona – I drive in eco mode – I have smart recuperation on and only use the paddles occasionally to bring to a complete stop.  I rarely use a/c, opting instead for cooling seat feature and will use heated seats and wheel when needed – I have wind deflectors fitted so can ventilate car when raining or to help in situations when car would otherwise be misted up – I think you just adopt different habits more suited to the car.

However I still maintain a balance between creature comforts and sensible options. I find eco mode still has the required acceleration for joining lanes, roundabouts etc.  Without wishing to sound sexist my wife would not bother with the paddles – hence smart recuperation works best.  I like music so most of the time it is on – when it was hot ventilated seats and sunroof worked well – in winter I will use heated seats and wheel but won’t hesitate to stick the heater on if cold.

In conclusion use smart recuperation coast when possible and accelerate evenly and gently in traffic – I am not obsessed with saving miles but these simple changes may help – I hope this hasn’t come across as condescending.
    Hope it helps ?
