Seems to me that electric, VTOL flying cars and taxis are a way off. The recent rash of press releases on the subject must be very optimistic. I reckon there’s still some way to go to get enough power to lift and shift people rather than small parcels. That, however, is the least of the problems – the safety factor must be really seriously addressed. I have done a small amount of GA flying as a passenger and it never ceases to amaze just how much stuff there is in the sky. A lot of it moving quickly and, with birds and radio control models, for example, erratically. Then there are power and telephone lines. I am sure proponents of aerial taxis etc will say that reliable computer technology exists to do it all safely. But how many times has this “reliable computer tech” gone wrong in your car? Moreover, the number of safety factors goes up exponentially once you get your wheels off the ground.
