is motability losing business because of Coronavirus as a lot of motability customers are staying in more in the fear of catching Coronavirus and not using they’re cars as much as normal, so when customers are due to renew are they just leaving order and not ordering a new car
I think JS had the figures recently of the number of new car registrations accredited to Motability and it looked pretty buoyant.
In August Motability said they had their busiest month ever.
Also, last month, with Motability’s warning of increased Advance Payments in Q4, no doubt Motability took a lot of orders both from those due for replacement and those who had received a lease extension due to Covid-19 but had not ordered beforehand.
Overall, I think Motability ‘took the pain’ between March and 30th June 2020 when it was impossible to order a car on the scheme due to lockdown. The scheme only re-opened on 1st July.
Whether the buoyant trend continues during Q4 remains to be seen.
When you consider that travelling in one’s own vehicle maybe safer (covid-19 wise) than travelling on public transport, and many customers cannot walk, then in a lot of cases a vehicle is a necessity for Motability’s customer demographic.
Some may decide that having a car sat on the drive could be a waste of money, but in the grand scheme of things they may well be in a minority versus having a reliable vehicle available for their needs.
