I like a column change gear stick, but it only makes sense to put one there if it does away with the centre floor console. That way it would allow for bigger front seats and a flat floor for more leg room on long journeys. Sometimes I think the old car designers got it right with the front bench seats of the Ford Consul, Zephyr and Zodiac etc.
