I think where David got confused was that he didn’t understand how Motability works when it comes to orders. His dealer could well have ordered a 45 from the factory with the intention of him having the car. The problem (at the time he ordered) was that the dealer would not have been able to place that order on the Motability system as the 45 was not on the scheme, so they would have placed the order on the Motability system as a 40 and ordered the 45 from the factory at their own risk.
Luckily, the 45 came into the Motability scheme yesterday, so the dealer will now need to cancel the 40 and re-order the 45 on the Motability system. This is just admin and won’t affect the factory order. Thankfully the AP is the same, so as far as David is concerned he will definitely get his 45 and will continue to believe that nothing has changed. However, had Motability decided not to put the 45 on the scheme, David would not have received his car. His order for the 40 would eventually have been cancelled on the Motability system and the dealer would have been left with the car, or an order slot (which they could cancel if the car hadn’t been built). Or, if Motability had increased the AP of the 45 over the 40, David would have been liable for the higher AP. The good news is that this hasn’t happened and all has ended well for David. The bad news is that David probably still won’t accept that this might not have been the outcome, and that whilst his dealer has been extremely helpful to him, they didn’t explain this accurately to him when he ordered ?
