I rang and spoke to DVLA who told me that 3 points doesn’t affect insurance.
I rang RSA and the person that spoke to me said only 6 points and above can affect insurance or needs declared.
Can’t remember exactly but it’s best speaking to them. My 3 points don’t come off for another year I think. It was my first offence too
