I originally had an Auto-Chair on ordered with my Tiguan but cancelled it for two reasons, one, the hoist does get in the way a bit but can be lifted off its mount if need be and two, was the increase of the cost of the hoist going from my last hoist of near on £200 to near on £600 now so decided to get an elevator (see photo).
When I ordered the Tiguan I was using a pavement scooter that would have only fitted in the Tiguan if the back seats were folded down (a big no no for me) or the rear seat were fully slide forward as this gives about an extra 150mm of boot space length however of course only give back seat passengers about 150mm leg space.
With that in mind I change my scooter to the type that kbfern mentioned along with the for mention Elev8.
You have to be able the lift the 11 Kg elevator into the boot but much easier than lifting the folding scooter that’s weigh in at 27 Kg.
Disadvantages of my adaption is that the folding scooters don’t have the captains chair that swivel around for easy enlightenment whereas the folding scooters have a fix seat so you must be able to step over the scooter to get on and off it.
Advantage is you can use this set up in any car anytime.
One other disadvantage is with the Tiguan is the boot floor isn’t variable unless you order the full size spare wheel (about £250 last count) and I’ve had to build my boot floor up so its level as needed with my set up but would not be a problem (I think) with a hoist as you would lift up and over and lower while I have to push the scooter straight off the elev8 platform and into the car using just one hand.
I always remove the parcel shelf from my cars as I find them a nuisance so that goes in the loft until the car is returned to MB and with smoked glass rear windows its hard to see into the car anyway and I don’t think many thieves have an agenda for stealing mobility scooters.
