In fact, your suggestion is that he paid £740 for options he doesn’t need (and he knew that the cam/wheels are £740 from the invoice), like what kind of argument i

Your putting words in my mouth!

    I said:

Correct me if I’m wrong – you say you phoned the dealer the day before to agree the price £2699 (AP). You then went down the day after and signed the paperwork and handed over the money (£2699) You then drove away in the car 2 hours later. The day after you collected your car the dealer contacted you again to say you owed them another £740 and an invoice was produced for this amount (£740)

    I then said:
If this is the case realisticaly you owe them nothing as it was the dealers mistake to which they have admitted

What has happened in your case is – the salesman has allowed you to have a car without realising it has factory fitted options on it. Later that day after you had collected your car, the sales manager or accounts department have noticed your car had factory fitted options on it and told the saleman who you had your car off. The saleman then tried to be crafty thinking you were a soft touch and tried to correct his mistake by sending you a invoice for the factory fitted options the day after you collected your car.
I then went onto say are the factory fitted options benificial to you.

Are the factory fitted options 18″ alloy wheels and rear-view camera benificial to you – would you have paid extra for them if you had done a factory order for your car?

I then finished by saying-however if the reverse camera is of benifit gathering it would be, over the Alloys

If however the reverse-camera is of benifit to you you could write/email saying something like “I’m not willing to pay for the alloy whees as they have no benifit to me, but I’m willing to make a small contribution of x amount towards the reverse camera. However I’m not prepared to pay the full asking price shown on the invoice for the said reverse-camera, as I would not of specified it as an optional extra”

    .

As you can gather my comments, my assumption was the vehicle was not a factory order, rather Alan had phoned the day before to agree a price and collected it the next day from stock. Hence the sales person didn’t realise at the point of sale of the factory fitted options untill the day after.

Another point if the vehicle was a factory order and, you added any factory fitted options, the dealer would want an up front payment for these. An invoice would then be given showing both the AP and factory options The AP would then be paid on the day of collection. Its highly ulikely the dealer would send an invoice the day after collection. Regardless taking your point theres a seperate invoice for the vehicle and factory options the dealer would have seen both on his screen, and printed them together.

We will never know for sure if the extra’s were a simple set of mats or anything else.
