Solar panels should definitely be encouraged – hopefully slab batteries similar to EV’s will be available for side of buildings for power when solar power is limited or not available – it would take a lot of strain of the grid especially at peak times or when wind is low – nuclear is some years away and fracking is at least 6mths to a year away. So better batteries and cheaper prices for solar and battery backup.
We considered solar panels a few years back but knew people who had problems with the roof after fitting, which put us off.
