My understanding is that some Tesla chargers are already open to other EV’s – I believe there is a hub on the eastern side of Exeter.
I have yet to do a journey of 250+ so this is based on research not experience – like you I indulge creature comforts when there is no reason not to – if I was doing a journey where compromise would rule out the need to stop then it would definitely be part of my decision making.
When I have completed a 250+ I will post my experience and approx route – but until then I am grateful for posts like yours that are based on experience.
