Thanks for your comments Rox, it’s appreciated.

I fully agree that being able to charge at home is a massive help.  Public charging costs are becoming ridiculous, petrol and diesel prices likewise.  We just have to look at the crazy profits being reported by BP etc.  Up to June 24th this year I was paying 5p/kw so I’ve had a 50% increase and agree with you that this will continue to rise.  At least I’m safe until next June.

My post was solely about my circumstances so my spreadsheet looks at the overall costs for both options over a six year period.  To me, I have to make sure whichever step I take is the most cost effective in the long term.  As you say, if you have home charging then an EV is pretty much unbeatable.

I wouldn’t agree that I’ve put the case for an EV over an ICE car.  I’m looking at the best financial option for me personally over say six years.  I looked at this with a completely open mind and would have thought seriously about moving back to private ownership and ICE, if I could have made the figures work for my circumstances.

I agree with you re wait times/cancellations.  I’ve found a dealer who  will place my order with the factory now, some seven months before I’m due to change.  Hopefully this will greatly reduce any extension period needed.

Excellent point about the road tax so that would take 5 x £165 from the £2940 additional cost of the Picanto so after six years it would have cost £2,115 more.  I didn’t include it in my calcs because I have a 34 year old petrol car which I use my exemption on.  The VED on this 1600cc car (which does 41 mpg) is a ridiculous £295 to do maybe 2,000 miles a year.  As I have a Motability EV currently, this is zero VED so I am personally responsible for the ticky box exercise yearly to tax it.

Fully agree that the right choice is down to the individual’s circumstances. I thought that updating this thread with my decision and why and how I came to it might be useful.
