ChrisK, in fairness if there can be any it’s more of a chore being unwell and having to deal with all the stuff you know that comes with it but the added hassle makes you almost get to the point where you say stuff this.
I worked in the car trade thirty five years ago and yes times change but I cannot believe that motability do not arrange with manufacturers to have a certain amount of the most popular cars allocated to only motability cars.
What I suspect is happening is this: I was at a Kia dealer the other day and I really pushed hard and would not let him go and eventually got him to pull up his access to the Kia factory online where it shows what is in production and colours. There were nine Kia Sportage 3’s available in Penta or Black May Week 3 UK. Now if I said I wanted one he had no option but to put my name against it with a delivery date to his dealership the third week in May.
Reason for this quick delivery is that Kia/Hyundai make their own semi-conductor chips and do not rely on buying in from China.
He was mighty relieved when I said I was not interested in those colours. Why? because he would only get a handling fee and not be able to sell a car at full profit. Before Covid the dealer could just put the dealer name against the car and get 30 days free stock before payment but the car has to now be allocated to a customer for immediate delivery.
He was mighty annoyed when he realised I knew what I was talking about and glad to see the back of me but I was tempted just to take a colour I did not want to hack him off.
Hopefully it will get better though but remember to get the salesman to show you online what the dates are due from the factory or they will fob you off, they can all do it.
Max.
