Make the most of the cheap driving while you can guys because road pricing by the mile is getting closer and reported in the weekend press with the RAC saying
(RAC Foundation director Steve Gooding said the “silver lining of zero-carbon motoring comes wrapped in a cloud of trouble for the Chancellor”.
He said: “Drivers choosing to go electric deserve to know what is coming next – particularly if the promise of cheap per-mile running costs is set to be undermined by a future tax change.
“If the Treasury is thinking it can leave this issue for another day but still recoup their losses from electric vehicles they risk a furious backlash from drivers who made the choice to go electric expecting to save money.”)
I’ve seen one newspaper quoting 75p per mile and hope that’s just another BS story as my current car does on average 13p to the mile including VAT and Duty.
More bad news I’ve seen today is the EU is thinking of closing the loop hole for Plug In hybrids.
EU Considers Revising PHEV Emissions Test To Better Reflect Real-World Use
I think all the savings of going electric would have dried by the time a suitable car for myself turns up on Motability but one saving grace if it comes to road pricing by the mile is I seen one report saying the disabled would get lower rates and is more than what we get now.
