I got lucky if you want to think of it that way. I had troubles in winter, just seasonal depression – until i forced myself to think hard about what could be fun to try/do.
Took a shot at it, and well, it worked. I still get periodic moments of.. “nyeh”, but in general, these guys get me out and about, leading to an overall improvement.

Scale(ish) rock crawlers. Building is therapeutic, painting is annoying but satisfying, and running them gives you something “to do” when going on a walk through the forest/trail/beach. And of course, good conversation starter with other people (some even likeminded).
With a bit of “decorating”, they’re loads of fun in the garden too, if you put up some obstacles. And you even learn a little bit, the brown one has actual leaf springs, something i had zero knowledge of before.
Not saying that this is for everyone (not everyone gets excited by a small car slowly going over rocks/obstacles), my point is more that you need to decide for yourself what you think is fun and could be done outside – and take a punt. Worst case, you lost a bit of money, best case, your overall mood improves.
