I’ve just phoned Motability to ask about this and whilst agreeing that the wording is confusing, and needs clarifying, they say that you CAN buy the car, but not within the last 21 days of the lease agreement as its destiny will have then been decided. Motability’s sales team are still in existence to offer a purchase price from 3 months to 22 days before the end of the lease. I hope that this is correct, there again I once changed from one Alhambra to another Alhambra, at significant expense, because they told me I could only have a new hoist in a new car, even though it was exactly the same model, spec, etc, and was only a few months old, ludicrous but that’s what they insisted upon so that’s what happened. A year later they tell me they could have put a hoist in the old one.
Motability are looking at making the wording clearer regarding when you can and can’t buy the car. So they say, watch that space.
