The end was in sight when they stopped all manufacturing in Australia in 2017….(sound familiar, post-brexiteers).
All they were really left with was the bigger Commodores (rebadged Insignias), these, like here, fell out of favour for the new crossovers & their crossovers were pretty crap…rebadged Mokkas, Captivas, Equinoxes and Acadias that were just not good.
GM has, essentially, given up in all markets except USA & China, pulling out of India, Thailand and all other right hand drive markets. At least Opel (Vauxhall) was offloaded to PSA rather than fold altogether (this did not help, they sell RHD Insignias and Astras in Aus/NZ rebadged, now no longer available via PSA).
A shame really, I grew up with a range of Holdens: Kingswoods, Torana’s, Belmonts, we had a Statesman for a while, before switching to Chrysler Valiants.
