Read a lot about the carplay2air but was never certain it would actually work, reviews were mixed. The cheaper solutions are on Ali Express (which is very good but delivery can take a while as China) TBH it looks like things have moved on a bit since I last looked into it and as you say the fact there is A potential solution on Amazon prime makes things a lot simpler. But you can get the same thing on Ali express for half the price. I usually find that once things appear on Ali Express the prices start tumbling.
