I currently have an ongoing case with the financial ombudsman but I’m not holding out much hope.  Whilst our current car only has a hoist adaption, motability refused point blank to extend my lease.  The issue I have is finding a car that allows me to put my scooter in without having to disassemble it, which I am not able to do.  I really don’t want to have to get another scooter as well although I am looking at the Smart Seat from auto chair that might help (although with a £550 price tag this is not ideal!)

I was given a 5 week extension as I did have an ongoing case with the foundation.  However as I am not eligible and they wouldn’t offer me a lease extension, I will need to either order an unsuitable car on the scheme by 21st March, or hand our car back.

I had read on this forum that some members were written to by Motability at the start of the year offering a lease extension even though their cars had done more than the 20,000 miles.  I’d be interested to see if there were any special circumstances that Motability are not affording me.

Thank you for your replies.  I have completed a form for a grant but I’m not sure they will help as I am not eligible for other benefits.  I will call them tomorrow once I’ve got the mental strength back.  I’m finding it all so draining on top of my ongoing health issues!

I have just found this forum and interested to see that some members have been offered a lease extensions.  I am coming to the end of my lease and am not able to find a suitable car from their ever decreasing pool of vehicles.  Due to a number of disabilities (rheumatoid arthritis and respiratory failure) I need to be able to transfer my mobility scooter into the boot with the aid of a hoist and without having to dismantle it.  We currently have a Ford Galaxy.  Although Ford offer the Torneo, due to the van nature of this car it doesn’t have electric boot and seats, which I also need.

Motability have flatly refused a lease extension and suggested I leave the scheme.  I have complained to the Financial Ombudsman but worry I won’t hear back in time.

It seems that Motability are not consistent with their message and wondering what my next steps should be.  We’ve spent weekends visiting car showrooms, measuring boots only to feel completely disheartened.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
