For the first time I am struggling to keep the van clean but I am surprised how easy it is to hoover some car carpet us shocking to clean. but I confess to using a washer at the moment just because I hurt my back at Christmas  there is a local automated washer top wash for a van £6.99 then I get home and clean it properly this is when you wish you bought a smaller one and it has 4 dogs but that area is all protected and I take it out when wet then the wheel chair that can cause a mess. But 3 coats of wax after clay bar in the first few days of ownership and she stays pretty good

Dave blue I wouldn’t jump the gun with any deposit or hold but have a word with dealer making sure he will sell to Motability  and that he will hold on until it’s all sorted on Monday also if it’s not nearby, that he will take order over the  phone encourage him that the grants team will be involved,  that way you  can call the grants team on Monday and get it all sorted the cancellation of old order and instigation  of new,  will be quickly done for you I am sure.

good luck and keep us all informed

Dave blue I suppose 6 months has seen the situation get even worse and staff must be under immense pressure trouble is we are all individuals and they have to individually deal with us. I hope you can get it sorted soon

Hi we contacted both and you have one person in grants team that looks after you. The car was a different model and price fortunately my wife has severe cognitive issues with the MS and sometimes I reckon they just want rid of her but this is what we have now and well pleased with it

Dave blue if you have a grant but find a suitable stick car give them a call and they will even confirm the car with dealer  to make sure you can in fact get it before putting current order at risk. They are extremely helpful and put us in a new order within 24 hours when we found a stock car and knocked a potential 18 months off the delivery time.

Elliot that is interesting because we do have charger all is fine but if there was a doubt with getting a home charger installed I really believe now 6 months on we would not have gone EV

Drove to Birmingham and back yesterday thought I would need to stop in Telford on the way back for a top up but made it home 116 miles and had 16% left car was reading 2.8 miles per KW at 6 degrees yesterday I was very impressed. We passed a BP near home showing £1.71 per litre so that’s £7.72 a gallon so this trip would have cost me around £24 in the Alhambra but with only having to charge at home the trip cost me £2.20. And as I was collecting a bath can’t fault size of car

Richard yes I agree I am on Octopus go faster at the moment until September but they are introducing a new one specific to vehicles and charge points with 6 hours of charge time sadly neither our vehicle or charger is compatible yet, but they do work hard at their projects so hopefully soon

Unlike ICE vehicles whereby a few pence saved at a Supermarket fuel station over the Motorway services is the best hope, with EV it’s totally down to where you can source your electricity and how often you can utilise the cheapest source ie home charge. So I think for many the price comparison and convenience (or not )can be very complicated to establish. My opinion would be different now if I was to start again without knowing if I could get a home charger. I certainly would not have risked it. which is sad as less than a year ago I worked out that all would be manageable without a home charger. I fortunately got the home charger despite not fitting the criteria. So moving forward my advice to anyone thinking about an EV is be sure of the home charger first.

Oscarmax your right the speed of current increase I think £8 which I think is around £1.75 a litre is getting close. I asked my electric provider Octopus what we might expect and they say hopefully my increase will be from 5.5p night rate to 8.5p but my day rate will more than double. However you have to extract the car from the house when trying to make a like for like comparison

Knowing that this has gone on for decades little will ever change I am sure but a bit of advice.

our last 4 cars came from stock as we are not patient waiters of cars. That said a couple of things firstly be prepared to travel always say will you sell this to Motability up front it saves wasting your time, then try and order over phone saves what can be two long trips if far away, and if it’s a big franchise one dealer can differ from another. Our current car last year we found four at one franchise spread over 4 dealers, but 3 refused and one said yes so I think sometimes it’s definitely a local decision to say yay or nay. But  I can recommend chasing cars if you have the time.

When we did our research we were 21 miles from the nearest charger we live rural in a small village, by ghe time it was delivered there were 3 in our village and 5 within 7 miles. Fortunately we have a hone charger too even without a drive. As for a milk float reckon it would be cheese delivered at these speeds😂

Michael unlike Petrol Diesel our mileage per gallon equivalent is dependent on what you pay for electric I work out at the moment I get 127 KW of electric for £7 which is roughly what it is per gallon now, although that tariff ends in September but I think I will get 83 KW then

Some years ago on the Scheme we had a Renault Clio RT Automatic it was L reg so 1993 ish and believe me we couldn’t get 25 to the gallon it was crazy and the day after it was delivered it dropped all the gearbox oil over the road the in 2010 we had a Renault grand Scenic privilege beautifully speced that did 50 plus around town

No you read that correctly they claim it only went to people who lost their job forgetting it actually also went to the long term unemployed who could only have been equally as impacted as the long term sick and disabled proving the answer holds no water

Ian yes you can do it all with the app but I was most worried about the precondition facility, because it’s a large car and de icing I thought would be a nightmare. Thing is if it’s severely iced then I do set the pre conditioner but if it’s just wintery it’s quicker to turn on put full a/c on and by the time it takes my wife to get to car it’s warm clear and ready to go, this was the biggest surprise in fact within a few minutes it starts for me to get too hot but instead of turning off I put it back in eco. It’s really effective. As for the head up just shows speed the limit and nav just before a command and it really suits shape of dash I love that but I am super lazy so maybe that’s why😭

Ian just be aware it’s a van but I tell you what I would have it again just come back from the cinema love the self cornering lights but the one thing I would insist on regardless of whatever car would be the head up display how on earth did I manage without it. Don’t think I have ever looked at the clock.
