I was going through some really old stuff and found a VHS tape that once had video footage of my kids. I have a video recorder that hadn’t been used for many years. Would it work if I tried to view the tape. Yes it did but the footage had been recorded over. My question is can the original footage be recovered. I’m not too bothered about the cost I just want the footage as it has some family members who have since passed. I was really surprised that the recorder actually worked after these many years but not as surprised as finding the remote, with the original battery, worked too. It must be some fifteen years since it was last used so the battery still working was a shock. The battery was one of those thin circular disk-type, looking to fit about four hundred of them in my EV ?
Sorry, once it has been recorded over then it’s gone, due to the nature of the media. Digital is completely different but on the old magnetic tape the gaps between each frame recorded are tiny, so anything recovered would just be a shaky white line or two at best. Don’t believe anyone that tells you they can recover stuff as they won’t.
PS. As I always say, this is not an airport, a as such you neither have to announce departures or arrivals.

Really sad to read that but as much as I’d like to blame the SNP, I’m afraid it is the same no matter which political party is in charge.
The biggest problem the UK is experiencing is a massive rise in population (something like 18%) over the last 20 years and it takes much longer than that for the tax revenues and NHS services to grow and adapt to the population increase.
Not wishing to throw any spanners into your plan, but how exactly will you charge the vehicle with a normal plug if you are just parking on the road outside your house? Surely you can’t just leave an extension trailing across the pavement as this is a big trip hazard that could surely get you sued if someone were to fall over it?

Your post gave me the kick up the bum to put an email together and emailed the CEO. I got a reply pretty quick saying it had been passed on and I’d hear in 24 hours and I got a reply saying they’d seen on record I prefer email and asked for some security which was great. Anyway hire car has been extended until June, they’ve promised to support me until the car arrives. They’ve assured me kwikfit will be here tomorrow Theyre getting DLM and RAC to investigate having to squeeze around at a scrapyard to retrieve my scooter with no disabled access and waiting multiple hours for recovery, sending a taxi to a location in London instead of Norfolk when I had an accident etc. I’ve since had a text from europcar saying the hire car needs an mot and Motability are looking to get the hire car changed given the state of it. Thanks to everyone who replied on here I don’t think I would’ve written to the ceo without you I would’ve continued filling in the complaint form instead I didn’t realise how badly I was affected by all this but I read all that and started crying.
Stay positive Rich, I know all too well that stuff like this can become overwhelming but at the end of the day just see it as something you have overcome! Shit happens but you have dealt with it and come out the other side!
Failing that, come on here and tell us all about it! We will always be happy to listen.

It truly terrifies me when I read reports like this. I joined Motability because it was supposed to provide stress free motoring but just lately I am seeing more and more about poor service, unreturned calls and terrible attitudes towards the end user. It is starting to appear that being a Motability/disabled customer puts you to the back of the queue. I thought those days were just a distant bad memory but maybe not!
I have a Netatmo Prescence camera it has fixed zones purely to watch over my car and front door driveway,i dont have any view of my neighbours front doors or paths. My neighbour has just had a system similar to OP’s fitted and it has taken over her life,many times its pointing down towards my home,i really want to wave at the camera.
i thought it was illegal to have cameras that covered your neighbours property? Don’t quote me on that as I’m not completely sure. Just thought I’d read something about it?
Nothing better than looking throgh a real brochure! I don’t print them off rather view the downloaded brochure on laptop.
Hi Kezo I still have some MG as in rover of the TF which has the stepspeed as they were on motability up until they went bust in 2025.

I think women can be like that, Mrs Joss has been resisting but She agreed its time to put them. One of the reasons is because we are constantly having our driveway blocked by idiots. So can’t get in and out when we need to. Soon I will be able to find out who are the cuplrits.
That’s understandable then. Thankfully we are in a quiet little close so don’t really get those problems but I’d still like a couple of more wide view cameras than the Ring doorbell as a deterrent more than anything else, as we do get the occasional chancer wandering around now and then.
We don’t currently have solar or battery storage (although I have been looking into it recently) and definitely don’t have EV.
I do stay on top of what we are paying for gas and electric and our current deal is the best price we can get. Octopus have offered a couple of fix deals but they are all more expensive than what we currently pay. They do have a tracker rate, where your prices will track wholesale market prices but you need a smart meter to be on that rate, which we don’t have. The tracker rate has proved to be a bit cheaper than the standard Octopus rate recently but can go up or down at any point.
I pay my bill each month with variable amounts rather than averaging it out over the year, which means very large bills in the winter and low bills in then summer, but it does allow me to monitor my use a bit more. I am avoiding a smart meter for as long as I possibly can but will probably be forced onto one eventually.
Guys, could you say which tariff you are on as I really need to familiarise myself with the different choices available? Oscarmax are you on a tariff for gas and a different tariff for electricity?
We are on flexible Octopus and the charges have just gone down to 23.77p per kWh for electric and 5.9p per kWh for gas.
The standing charges are 53.94 and 29.94p per day respectively@Willis are you growing the good stuff ? ?

Our annual electricity usage is 9740kwh and our gas use is 16842kwh.
We don’t have an electric vehicle but I do have a pretty well equipped workshop in the garden.

Oscarmax, may I ask if that is purely your own personal choice? Or do you feel you are being ‘priced into’ going EV or even coerced or pressured into getting an EV by Motability’s constant barrage of pro-EV publicity (and their now obvious pro-EV pricing)? Personally, I do have some concerns that Motability customers, who may not be fully cognisant, (I am not say you are, but in general) or maybe without full mental capacity, or even financially vulnerable may feel somewhat pressured into going EV, due to Motability’s current pro-policies and pricing, even if that is not the optimal mobility solution for the particular customer at the moment (ie cannot charge at home etc). I would not be confident that Motability trained sales staff at dealerships (no doubt also under pressure to shift EV’s – as per recent/current pricing and offers and the VEZ scheme) would offer truly impartial advice on the best motoring solution for the customer. So, should Motability themselves be doing more to ensure customers, particularly vulnerable and financially vulnerable customers get the correct type of vehicle, as opposed to pro-actively throwing the EV route upon them by such as attractive pricing/advertising? One for ongoing debate no doubt.

An EV vehicle is just not suitable for me and my needs, yet I feel like I am being forced to accept that route or be financially punished if I choose to stay on the Motability scheme. I am just coming to the end of my second (extended) lease with Motability and am now having to seriously look at buying a private vehicle, along with the cost of getting it adapted, the hassle of finding an insurer and and also sorting out breakdown cover simply because Motability fail to consider their customers needs before some corporate policy that EV is best!

A different sim card that you could just pop into your phone when at the second house and charging the vehicle? Easier (and cheaper) than two phones?

Like a dutiful husband I got up at 7am this morning to put the turkey in the oven but that’s it now as far as my involvement in the cooking side of things until I get called in to start carving the different joints. Both ovens are on and there are some lovely smells coming from the kitchen but I’m playing the good host to our visitors whilst occasionally having a look in here and also hoping to be able to sneak into the study to have a look at how the footy is going on.

I’ve been looking at this car for my next motability vehicle and I’ve seen it’s no longer available I’m well gutted! need the boot space to get my scooter in so I can still use the back seats!
Hopefully the 2024 model will soon be back on the scheme.
That all sounds very good but you obviously have far more specialist knowledge that I do. I have had someone give me a quote for solar with battery storage but just felt uneasy with how they were trying to push me to sign up there and then, but two things that have stuck in my mind about their visit was how they pushed how good battery storage would be in our circumstances and how much different batteries could vary in quality and potential life. They also tried to baffle me with weights of different batteries and how crucial it could be in relation to size, especially as the installation would mostly be going into the loft, so I was just curious what sort of weight a 15kwh battery would be.
The Givenergy All in One 13.5kWh weighs 173kg The Fogstar Energy 30kWh 48V weighs 173kg but is more than double the capacity. This does not mean the Givenergy is better, just because it is heavier. The design of the unit and casing plays a part. Both have the same battery chemistry of LFP (LiFePO4) meaning each battery cell in both the Fogstar & Givenergy are basically equal in weight and energy density. Givenergy is a subsidiary Shenzhen Givenergy Technology Co., Ltd. Specifically, the company operates a manufacturing facility in Shenzhen, China and the units are put together in the UK and other countries. Fogstar is a British company, who deal in Solar, other LiFePO4 and Vape batteries. The company some batteries under its own name but, that are made by other companies and are open about this. For their own branded solar batteries they use batteries produced by EVlithium, particularly EVE LF100LA and LF304 depending on the solar battery you want. EVlithium are located Zaozhuang, Shandong province China. https://www.evlithium.com/html/about.html So the battery manufactures are China v China. Fogstar use a UK designed heated system to keep the batteries warm and enable optinum charging in colder weather. They also you use a Pace Battery Management System, which is considered gold standard. I’m not sure if Givenergy have battery heating or the BMS used but, it is ip65 rated for outdoors, where as Fogstars rack system isn’t but, they do have another designed system cheaper still for the same kWh. I’m a sparky along with having MCS certifation and lets say I’m a Growatt certified installer and you invited me to give you a quote, you would quoted/pushed for a Growatt solar battery and told its the best thing since sliced bread. Is it better actually better than the rest, when they are all based on LFP/LiFePO4 and typically each cell has the same weight and energy density. There is alot more in what makes a solar battery apart from the battery itself, like has it got a good quality BMS system and what other important features does it have along with useability, size and suitability for location of fitment.
Cheers Kezo. That’s great information and has made me realise that I actually need to do a lot more reading and research into solar installations rather than just get bounced into going ahead with one based on thinking it is the right thing.
I’m normally so careful and do loads of research before making any big purchase but with solar I seem to have got caught up in all the hype and very nearly committed to a very expensive purchase last week. I’ll take some time now and if I do it then at least I’ll do it as an informed purchase!
