    I was leaning towards a XC40 originally but the AP was horrendous ๐Ÿ™

    After the X1 I just dont want another SUV style vehicle I just dont like the centre of gravity I think im destined for a Golf forever ๐Ÿ™‚

    Ironically talking about old cars my first ever car when I was in much better health was a Mk1 Capri ๐Ÿ™‚

    Seats have just got smallerย  harder and more restrictive over the years ๐Ÿ™

    I too had a Mini Clubman 1977 on an S in Reynard Metalic ๐Ÿ™‚

    The seats were lovely brushed velour but as said were more like deckchairs…………….

    I later had a 1995 Rover Mini that had Metro seats i think for 95?

    So much more comfortable than the clubmans but terrible for rear access though being just two of us the rear seat didnt get used that often.

    My last Mini had to go because of the state of the roads,classic minis are cheeky but with a spinal condition and zero road maintainance thesedays they are no longer fun and probably not that safe either ๐Ÿ™

    So Dont I feel a fool tentively enquiring about the GTE on Monday only to be told no that wont happen theres only 5 in the country and they are no longer making them ๐Ÿ™

    We are all part of the problem brydo as like it or not we like to have nice things and show the outside world we have those nice things.

    Cars for instance when I was growing up we were happy enough with Vivas,Escorts,Marinas those who come from a working class background were proud of it and didnt want Jags,BMW’s etc now everybody wants them (says she with a BMW) But seriously society has changed with consumerism even in my lifetime and everybody thinks they are posh LOL!

    I guess with this car I just wanted something nice while I could but i kind of regret that now ๐Ÿ™

    The funny thing is Wales as you say voted on whole to leave I wonder if the farmers will be so smug when their grants stop,you know the ones they received from the EU?

    Whole thing is a mess,I hope you all love the conservatives because they are planning to scrap fixed terms so thats it we may be stuck with them forever???

    I wonder how many of the sheep actually bothered to read the Manifestos?

    Problem is when you have a MP thats conservative that voted for my Money to be cut,voted for your money to be cut and wishes disabled people would just die!

    They dont represent us they only wanted Brexit for tax evasion.

    Im past trying to reason with brexiteers problem is we should of voted for what best for the country and we didnt we voted for brexit so we will get brexit

    But we had the chance to keep the NHS and our Human Rights and get rid of poverty and for the elderly disabled and vunerable to be treated fairly and with dignity but we blew it ๐Ÿ™

    When the conservatives ramp up their war against the vunerable you will get the chance to see if brexit was worth it?

    And anybody here who looses their car and mobility who voted them back in you cant complain as you voted them in.

    Thats how it works………………….

    I hate brexit im a remainer not a remoaner as some put it,look what its done to this country! In some senses if I wasnt stuck in the middle of this mess id say those who voted for it would deserve the mess they find themselves in but it will be the ones who didnt who will suffer ๐Ÿ™
    Brexit was stupid and those who voted the most dangerous government in history back in because they want brexit well ill let them realise at their leisure how stupid they have been!
    Motability is getting worse how long before its non existant?

    If brexit had been kept out of this and people voted with common sense that the Conservative party isnt working for the common everyday people we might of had a brighter future?

    But sadlyย  people only thought about brexit!!

    Those who think we will see any of the money that we pay to the EU are sadly delusional it will go firmly in the conservatives back pocket!

    I like to to hope that those who voted them back in have realised what they have actually done? but I very much doubt it………………………………………………

    I think I may of got off on the wrong foot with some here? Im not looking to cause any trouble I just think that either Motability are not checking up on their Accredited dealers or they simply have no idea what is really going on at ground level?

    My thread titleย  “Should we collectively open up the biggest can of worms ever?” probably makes me sound like im out to cause trouble but its simply not the case.

    I just despair that once a dealer has Accreditation how many of them dont care and we just become another customer rather than a disabled customer with varying special and specific needs that the dealerships are supposed to be trained to a standard which then they dont follow and nobody appears to check up on them ๐Ÿ™

    This post was really put up because there appears to be a heads in sand thing going on and if motability were brave enough to admit that many dealerships were falling short of the standards they are supposed to reach the can would surely start letting the worms out?

    I do fear however that though Motability do care about customers when things go wrong they dont appear to want to get to the route of the problem?

    Right now though im struggling with my condition and the car has taken a back seat and hence why I havnt been online much,Motability have told me to take my time and let them know when im ready to terminate and then get things back on track.

    This seems to have turned into a bit of a witch hunt against BMW when it is a case of one personโ€™s experience of one variant of one car and one dealer. When I went looking at the X1 I was given the usual round the block test drive, as soon as I returned the salesperson offered an extended drive. I used the opportunity to drive the car on a hospital visit. I was able to test if my scooter could fit in the boot, a no brainer test really, because if the scooter didnโ€™t fit the car wouldnโ€™t do. I was given a top of the range x-line (full leather) I knew I couldnโ€™t afford an x-line so knew that there was stuff in and on the car that I would not have on mine. I was able to drive on motorway and dual carriageway from Peterborough to Cambridge and return on rural roads. Personally I found the seats not to be a problem on this variant which is the same as the OPโ€™s. The OP goes on to mention that he test drove in an older model than the one he bought. This is not a new model, it is a facelift, i.e. a few cosmetic and equipment changes, so nothing that would drastically change the dynamics of the ride or handling of the car. The OP did mention that the car he test drove felt different to the car he bought and suspected that the test car had the adaptive suspension but couldnโ€™t prove. The SE variant he test drove would have had 17โ€ณ wheels, not the 18โ€ณ wheels as fitted to the x-line as standard. Thereโ€™s quite a difference in ride quality between them. All in all we have a large choice of cars on the scheme from a huge number of dealers, if one dealer doesnโ€™t give you what your looking for then go elsewhere. I live in the middle of the countryside so all dealers are at least half an hour away but that wouldnโ€™t stop me going to say Heathrow/Lincoln/Northampton (all more than 90 mins drive) or even further afield if I did not get the service required. All our circumstances and needs are different, thereโ€™s no use blaming the cars or manufacturers if their car doesnโ€™t suit our needs we only have ourselves to blame if we make the wrong decision.

    I am aware I made the mistake but then again if dealers who are supposed to be specifically trained had of made me aware of my rights to a longer test drive,my rights to reject if i wasnt happy maybe it wouldnt of turned into such a nightmare that it has ๐Ÿ™

    I totally get that everybodies needs are different and as a result though the X1 has proved to not be right for me it may be ok for others?

    My problem here is that I had a short test drive in the wrong vehicle and the dealer was economical with the truth telling me what he wanted me to hear rather than the truth that may of had a bearing on me choosing that vehicle or not?

    Its a life lesson I get that.

    Its a mess but somehow it will be sorted out.

    What is sad im not the only one and this keeps happening not just to me but others,Motability accredited dealers not sticking to rules they are supposed to adhere to and nobody placing any accountability on them ๐Ÿ™

    The dealer went on to tell me more untruths of what they would do in order to put things right then backtracked on everything that was promised then wiped his hands of me ๐Ÿ™

    Surely as an accredited dealer the needs of their disabled customers should be paramount?

    I was rushed into a test drive on a route they determined in an old model they assured me was the same as what i would get and it wasnt they offered no longer test drive and if they had it would of been in a older vehicle.

    On handover day I was rushed,it seems deliberately now,yes I have to accept responsibility for hiring that vehicle but it appears that a “Motability Specialist” who is supposed to be specifically trained has to accept no responsibility whatsoever for leading the hirer up the garden path?

    But yes the car will be right for some,BMW will be right for some,but this car or dealership were not right for me sadly ๐Ÿ™

    Regarding blaming BMW they do know these seats are an issue but like any large corporation are choosing to ignore the fact ๐Ÿ™

    Others said it here its well documented all over the internet so yes im guilty of not doing my homework and trusting the salesperson.

    Lesson very much learned I will never make that mistake again………………..

    When I first got my DLA some 20 years ago my first car was a Fiesta Ghia ยฃ500 AP with Ford contribution of ยฃ250 I qualified for ๐Ÿ™‚

    1 week after handing ยฃ500 over I was given ยฃ250 back then before it was delivered it went down from ยฃ500 AP to ยฃ250 on the next quarter

    As Ford had contributed that ยฃ250 I then got my ยฃ250 back from Motabilty meaning ยฃ0 AP ๐Ÿ™‚

    I get where Michael and Dave are both coming from eitherway the AP’s are becoming highway robbery now I remember a BMW 3 Series auto being ยฃ700 when I came on the scheme.

    The excessive AP’s now do have a link to people getting the wrong cars I know I felt back into a corner when I ordered mine and as a result got things very very wrong! Now im very very broke ๐Ÿ™

    Its less our needs now than what they can sell us that benificial to them and how much they can screw us out of ๐Ÿ™

    Think im done with prestige brands now look where its landed me I just want to be back in something practical like I was a couple of weeks ago………………………..

    Just received a generated Survey about “The Thing” and my service from the dealership??
    This will be fun!

    I had considered the Tiguan and also the Passat but after my experiences with the BMW Im not sure I am cut out to be Up in the air in an SUV?

    The Passat not keen where the Nav is would much rather have it higher up on the dash where the sister Audi A4 has it seems an afterthough on the passat and the only model out there for a test drive appears to be an R which is too sporty and i must test drive the vehicle i am ordering now according to Motability.

    Ruby please check you are happy with the vehicle before you enter your pin you can still walk away from it if your not happy.

    I at least hope the mess im now in helps others in knowing their rights and not falling into the same traps as i did

    Id like to go back to a Golf but not sure I want to be in an old outgoing model at AP you would expect for a new model ๐Ÿ™

    Yes if you want a Manual theres deals to be had but im sure as a disabled person im not the only one that a manual transmission is no use for ?

    We are now looking into the option of sending “The Thing”ย  as we now call it back and buying something cheap to tide us over until what we really need appears again.

    I think its inevitable I will end up in a Golf again just dont want to pay big money for what is essentially what they cant get rid of now the Golf 8 is on the Horizon

    End of last year I nearly ended up in a Mercedes B Class when a decent deal came up but again it was lead out model.

    I was told for Several Thousands of Pounds I could have a Black,Red or White one and they all had options packs I was expected to pay extra for that I didnt really want or need ๐Ÿ™

    Case of the disabled being good to get rid of their unwanted stock………………………

    I suspect the are no longer building the Golf 7 and its whatever they have left?

    Lets hope the Golf 8 is swift to replace this and I can get back where I should be ๐Ÿ™‚

    Incidentally when Motability chosen repairers failed to repair my old Golf hatch after a shunt and motability told me to get another car I picked the Estate,first estate ive ever had I just got it because it was a good deal at that time being the same price as a hatch andย  just thought I would try something different ๐Ÿ˜‰

    It had been such a practical car at a time when we needed something bigger to lug things around.

    Right car for the right time really for us ๐Ÿ™‚

    But if we get a new Golf we will be happy to just go back to a 5 door hatch ๐Ÿ™‚

    I would guess they were not selling enough 3 doors and SUV sales have all but finished off the Estate.

    I really miss my Golf,I was told it was boring ๐Ÿ™

    Maybe they are but maybe I like boring,as I get older and my health gets worse my car person days are over and to me function over form is now more important than form over function!

    If Boring is like a comfortable pair of shoes I am happy to be boring ๐Ÿ™‚

    Have to say I feel a bit of a Narna now as I had a dent in the door of my car i returned it was the size of a thumbnail and I paid a PDR guy to push it out. He did a marvelous job for ยฃ45 you couldnt tell where it was? But I do question now did I need to have it done at all?

    I think we are all constantly learning through others experiences things we never knew and right we never knew we had………

    The more we share the more we help each others to be armed with the right information ๐Ÿ™‚

    WEll we have travelled to many garages over the last couple of days and seen a mix of cars that are unsuitable to cars sadly no longer on the scheme ๐Ÿ™

    At present Motability havnt put the termination on the system but left notes to say its been approved and have told me to go look and let them know when to activate it? We originally left VW for two reasons………

    One just bored after 12 years and 4 cars and the dealership was fabulous until they merged with another,got too big and customers became figures rather than cherished ๐Ÿ™

    Our original Salesman is fine its the rest of the lack of customer care ๐Ÿ™

    That said we are warming to one idea……………..

    waiting until the new year ( just have to grin and bare it and top up on painkillers) in the hope the new golf will come back on?

    Being a new shape with new tech takes the same old same old away from it

    but we will keep looking in the meantime

    All the paperwork I signed on order day was getting me to commit and sign to say I was happy with the car for my needs?

    Problem is I was signing off on an old model had i of known my rights I would of rejected on the day.

    That said I was made to pay for the options on the day of order not when I collected I guess its their insurance policy?

    Expensive mistake and lesson learned the Good condition bonus on my old gold has nearly covered the options I cannot get refunded so I guess its just going back to zero again i will be no better off neither will I be worse off…………….

    But yeh this thread is really to see if we could collectively gain some sort of contact with motability because they either dont know whats going on or who knows they are choosing to ignore it?

    The lady I spoke to on the phone I have no complaints she was very supportive and my best intersts were her concern its the dealership can of worms that needs to be opened.

    Just wanted this thread to be others points of view on bad service they have had at dealerships,Testdrives,Service,Courtesy Cars,Parking etc etc?????

    I do accept some of the responsibility cb2011 but my point here is theres a large can of worms that I think Motability should be aware of.

    Yes maybe i should of asked for a longer test drive but should that of not been offered without me asking? afterall these sales staff are supposidly trained to do so?

    Then I still would of been test driving the wrong model set up differently to the one I could order.

    Yes I was advised that the model delivered was to be a new model but the salesman assured it it would be the same as the one I test drove it was just an appearance update but its soo different to that I test drove ๐Ÿ™

    Even a whole weekend test drive i may of still loved that old model but that would never of been the vehicle I was getting.

    Maybe when theres a new model coming out they should not be allowed to order that model if no test drive is available?

    So yes I have to live with what I have done but also the dealer who told me it would be the same didnt inform me it was my right to inspect the vehicle before taking it also has a part in the wrong decision being made here?

    Its a life lesson for sure I will never just take a salesmans word and will research more in the future.

    This post isnt about my car so much I have covered that in the other thread its more about resposibilies that accredited dealers train and sign up for but dont follow through and Motability not making sure they are and us as a collective maybe approaching motability and get them to recognise something needs to be done? More training? Motability checking they are doing things by the book etc thats my point.

    I will be ยฃ1000 out of pocket when this is resolved dont worry I wont make the mistake again.


    I agree Wayne I do applaud Motability I think the issue may be that they have rules that are very black and white and if the dealers played along in black and white then the blame could be squarly laid at the hirer but when a dealer doesnt follow protocol and get a customer placing an order under false pretences maybe the strike should be against the dealer not the hirer?

    It appears even if its their fault its ours ๐Ÿ™

    I suspect my dealer dont care now as motability will sort it out,they have their sales figures and I as a person no longer matter to them?

    I was wrote off as a customerย  of the dealership after 72 hours because I asked for help ๐Ÿ™

    No offense meant just a lot to write down couldnt really say it in any less but taking my personal experiences apart Im asking if others could suggest things that are being overlooked that are causing us to sometimes end up in a pickle because of the way Accredited dealers and other third party companies we are required to use on the system and not being monitored properly and its us as the end user that often gets the blame for their shortcomings ๐Ÿ™

    Thats it condensed maybe if we all got together Motability may start to monitor those who they have put their trust in to follow their protocols and see that often they are clearly not doing things the way they have agreed to when they received accreditation?

    Sam has calmed down now think its just frustration on whats happened,we even went to VW this morning but our long standing salesman wasnt available so we walked away may be chance of seeing him at the end of the week?

    Just to let you all know there has been a solution but sadly the solutionwill loose me ยฃ1000 ๐Ÿ™

    Obviously I cannot get back the optional extra payment but today Motability have agreed to let me terminate if I so wish to ?

    They have also waived the ยฃ250 cancellation fee and rounded my good condition bonus up to help ๐Ÿ™‚

    Motability also informed me that I could of tried the car on the day before entering the pin and rejected it then.

    Instead the salesperson steamrollered me into a seat and made me sign everything over before getting the car for me ๐Ÿ™

    Its amazing what you find out later………………………………..

    We are currently having a domestick here though as its been made clear Sam (My Friend/Flatmate/Carer delete as applicable) is not happy its going back.

    Deep down I want another Volkswagen and thats causing a row ๐Ÿ™

    Dealership I went to for years has really gone down hill but to me though boring VW are a comfortable pair of shoes

    Just got back home from a visit to see my parents its been orginised for months so had to go regardless and the X1 was all we had !
    Been a few hundred miles in it now and it was terrible as others have said the seat bases are just too short and way too hard!
    Went into a VW Dealers today to prove concept and sit in a Golf like I had the seats are both wider and longer why oh why didnt i just get another Golf? Its a mess wish i could turn the clock back and undo this ๐Ÿ™
    As Pops says on reflection to have a fighting chance id need the knee support but that said because of my back issues i would need the non sports seat back half of each seat a seat that doesnt exist ๐Ÿ™

    Theres inches of padding in VW Seats and I doubt even 1 inch in the BMW seats I just liken them to a barely upholstered park bench ๐Ÿ™

    Where I have been ive had terrible phone reception so I will ring motability tomorrow.

    The verdict has now come back from the dealers they are backtracking and have washed their hands of me after 72 hours of ownership are now backing out of any help they offered and have told me to just sit on a towel in a ยฃ36k car!!!!

    So if I sit on towels they will push me further off an already too short base……………………

    Eitherway I will ring motability tomorrow who knows with the good condition bonus (my handback was spotless) It might soften the blow of the extras pack.

    Think its obvious I cant go on with this car but where i go from here I dont know as I cannot get a Golf no they are no longer on the scheme ๐Ÿ™

    Getting a little confused here as Joss said I could get pro rata on extras added but the last post says I cannot ๐Ÿ™

    Feelsick to the stomach we have been arguing since the car arrived!

    Canโ€™t afford to loose the extras payment but if I had to I had to.

    My Friend seems to think it can be sorted out by the dealer Iโ€™m not to sure as Iโ€™m starting to realise even if they were softer I still canโ€™t get comfortable in any position in those seats

    So Ill keep this short

    Test drive was cloth seats,I do find the seats small too short on the base I never noticed that on the test drive ๐Ÿ™

    Been to BMW today they are going to consult their techs next week and if nothing can be done have spoke about possibly getting a trimmer involved? The latter seems drastic to me and i get the gut feeling could lock me into this car?

    I thought if I had an options pack the money invested in that was gone?

    Or thats how its worded?

    As my condition has got worse i thought it would be nice to have one last fling so to speak so BMW.

    Ive had nothing but Volkswagens for 12 years,yes they may be boring but I get on with them Im begining to wish i had stuck with the proverbial pair of comfy shoes……………….

    Not only am I getting back pain sciatica now im getting hip and knee pain and after a 15 mile journey today I felt like my circulation had been cut off ๐Ÿ™

    I got out the car and my legs were like jelly ๐Ÿ™

    Think my best friend is a bit annoyed with me right now?

    weve shared a flat for over a decade now nothing other that company for each other,think of us like Hinge and Bracket LOL!

    She has my best interests at heart but I think she thinks im not giving the car a chance? She has run me around to dealers for months now and it seems like im giving up without even trying ๐Ÿ™

    But I am in real discomfort and pain,we are going to my parents up norf for a few days tomorrow, pre arranged rooms booked cant just back out I think this may be make or break with the car?

    Cant and dont want to back out now im looking forward to seeing my Mum and Dad but only have that car to take ๐Ÿ™

    I have promised i will return Motabilitys call tomorrow as I missed it today ๐Ÿ™

    We are going over to see the dealer shortly ive not slept much last night. Im hoping something can be done like the webbing inside the seat is just too tight?

    I imformed Motabilty via Email in the early hours of this morning when I couldnt sleep,hopefully it wont need to go that far but thought it best so at least its on record it was a problem at the start.

    I do sometimes wonder why motability dont allow shorter leases on nearly new cars?

    I get they dont want old cars on the scheme but 12 months old 2 years lease could be the difference between somebody getting the car they really need and a car thats unsuitable

    I also think Disabled customers needs are so vast that we should be given test cars for a week a few hours simply isnt enough.

    Ill let you all know how I get on

    I have just ordered an X1 I was waiting for the xLine Diesel.
    I find the 1 series too cramped and the 2 series is based on it.

    We tried the 2 series tourerย  and despite it supposidly being same chassis as the X1 the X1 seems more planted and nicer to drive ๐Ÿ™‚

    Its a funny old thing but if you ever complain to motability they will always bang on about the ยฃ0 AP cars like Hyundai i10 VW Up etc but because of limited movement it would be like hell getting in and out of such a tiny shoebox ๐Ÿ™

    Those on the outside think is ungrateful………………

    I want a large car because of ideas of grandeur i need a large car because of my mobility needs!

    It also makes me laugh as we often get GT,ST,AMG,M Sport models pushed our way but they wont let us have the soft luxury models.

    I have test driven an M Sport my back was cricifying me after a short drive because of the daft seats and rubberband tyres whereas essentially the same car with softer suspension,softer seats and more rubber on smaller wheels is ideal ๐Ÿ™‚

    I sometimes think they forget they are dealing with Disabled Customers and its supposed to be our needs first……………………………………..

    I never knew that about the extras pack. I do have a feeling though I may not go with Mercedes seeing the vehicle I really wanted has now returned to the scheme ๐Ÿ˜‰

    I just have fuel confusion now ๐Ÿ™
