Saw one of these when I was looking recently, SW GT Line in Twilight and it’s a definite eye catcher – I fell in love immediately with the looks BUT I just thought the AP was excessive when you look at some of the alternatives available.
In my opinion, the best looking estate on the scheme right now without a shadow of a doubt and if it’d been a £7-800 cheaper, and had a couple more toys it would have been ordered on the spot…

Of course, it came across as ugly, I all but stated that my feelings were somewhat unreasonable, and while I am well aware of the terms of my lease, my point was (supposed to be) that rules are rules, true, but blindly following a rule for no other reason than “Because it’s the rule” is completely counter-intuitive.

I run my own business and we have “rules” but I regularly bend or break them when there is no, or next to no loss to me or my customer AND there’s a benefit to either or both of us.  The truth of the matter is, there really wasn’t a downside for Motability from allowing me to get the car early (but still well within the final 3 months when they will allow you to order) but there would have been a substantial benefit on both sides. I’d have had the car I wanted, and they’d have had a confirmed continuing customer for another three years. Win-win, both sides benefit which, personally, I think is EXACTLY the time when you should bend a rule.

Rules should, in my opinion, always be a guideline, and if there’s a GOOD reason not to stick to the letter of them, then that’s the time to consider if it’s better for everyone if there’s a little flexibility, so I repeat (ironically the one thing no-one mentioned in the comments.) that I believe rules should be taken with a little common sense to get the best overall outcome for everyone.

This was never about me bitching about not getting what I wanted, it was about the missed opportunity for both sides of the situation to benefit, ultimately resulting in BOTH sides being worse off.

A lot depends on your needs and budget – I’ve just ordered a Tiguan R-Line from Lookers in Newcastle, and that has heated cloth seats (so best of both worlds in my opinion) and a pretty high driving position, along with a boatload of other toys, but it’s the wrong side of 2 grand advance payment. If you give us more info on what you’re looking for and what you do or don’t want to spend, you’ll get a load more specific advice – the guys in here are pretty sharp and a lot of us have already done a lot of the homework looking at different cars and trim levels etc…

Meh, I’m 1 week into my 10-12 week wait so isn’t gonna matter anyway heh – Maybe in 3 years although a part of me has already kinda decided this’ll be my last Mota car unless they bring some Pick-ups onto the scheme – I can see me needing a scooter by the time this lease ends and you can’t beat a pick up for sheer space and practicality. I plan to spend the next 3 years saving like mad to buy something in 2023, and if they DO bring something super-suitable to the scheme, I’ll have my AP all set and sorted – win-win for me

Oooh, I have a vinyl cutter, a heat press, black shirts, and both white and red vinyl in stock – I can make myself one of those for effectively nothing… And I still don’t really want one lol 😛

One of the reasons we ended up with the White (other than the fact that I actually WANTED the white) was that the car we’re getting is already on order for stock which may explain why its due when it is as opposed to the full 4-5 months most are being quoted. They aren’t ordering a car FOR me, they’re allocating a car already in progress TO me.  It just so happened that one of the cars they have already ordered for stock purposes happened to be a bog-standard 2WD R-Line auto, at least that’s the impression I got from the dealer. I basically ended up with whatever colour would be landing at about the right time for my Volvo lease end

I think it varies by dealer/brand sometimes – Skoda and Seat both told me there was no charge for any colour (although Seat doesn’t charge ANYONE for colour so that doesn’t mean much). When I got my Volvo 3 years ago that dealer also told me there was no charge for the colour (and he actually said that Motability insist on Metallics being free as they help future value) but when I enquired about the Tiguan Allspace in Haberno Orange, I was told it was a £1000 option.

I THINK (don’t quote me on this) that you CAN get most metallic or solid colours at no charge but the dealers do still charge extra for the Special Edition or high Pearls.  Then again it might be 100% down to how recently the other half took care of business when you’re sitting across from the dealer…

No idea if it’d be something they’d do over and over, but when I mentioned the JCT offer, Lookers VW in Newcastle gave me £250 off of a Tiguan R-Line. It isn’t the £500 that JCT offer but for me, it made sense – would probably have cost me close to £100 in diesel for 2 trips down there and back, plus 10-12 hours on the road all together so I went with the lower amount – with my MS that kind of drive is possible but would wipe me out for the rest of the day at best, I figure 2 usable days of my life instead of the extra £150 in my pocket was a decent trade-off 🙂

There’s always a drive to go wireless (phones, home networks, headphones and more) and I think this is one of those things that doesn’t really need to be. If you’re going to be using the phone pretty much constantly for nav/audio or whatever, having the phone physically connected means it won’t run out of battery PLUS the whole point of having them paired up properly is that you don’t need to use the phone/screen so is it really such a big deal to have it out of the way where it can be permanently connected?

Does this apply if you’re in the last 3 months when you can normally order anyway? I’ve been told I can get the Tiguan R-Line pretty much immediately from one dealer but the 3 years on the Volvo isn’t up until very early in January, although I’ve had the go-ahead letter from Motability to order my next car

Just to clarify, the video I saw on Youtube (so I freely admit, not the most reliable or reputable of sources) mentioned than the R-Line sunroof only booms IF you open it fully. It naturally stops opening just a couple of inches short of fully open. At that point it’s fine, it’s only if you override the “normal” stop point and make it open those extra couple of inches that the noise becomes an issue.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lInKMH1zZBQ – skip to about 16 mins for the details, and DEFINITELY skip the first minute or two of stills and annoying music 😛

My question above is related to the rear windows, not the sunroof as my young son likes his window open but on the  Volvo XC60 we have right now, that causes a buffeting/booming unless you also open one of the front windows.

On the Volvo it’s around the doors as well, Patrick tends to like his window open on the drive back from school and those are all 30’s and 20’s and I don’t have THAT heavy a foot 😀

Having said that, I’m going to pop down to a second local dealer this morning so I can test it out to be sure.  Mill in sunderland annoyed me yesterday. They have a Tiguan in the showroom covered in Motability stickers and offers, and right in the centre of the bonnet is a big “Never beaten on price. Price promise” sticker – when I asked if they’d match the JCT600 offer I got the standard lie about “Motability sets all the prices, we can’t do anything”.  Yes Motability may well set the prices but as there are dealers all over the place doing deals on all makes and models, saying you can’t is the lie – if he’d said they wouldn’t, I wouldn’t have been as annoyed because at least that’d be the truth.  I told him they should remove that sticker if it doesn’t apply to motability, especially as it’s on a car heavily stickered up FOR motability…  He didn’t seem to like that comment but at that point, I was past caring as he’d already lost my business anyway.

Buffeting! That’s the bloody word – would NOT pop into my head, hence the booming air pressure pulses description!

My other half has a very specific question for anyone who already has a Tiguan (ideally the exact model but I think in this case, it won’t matter too much).

On our XC60, when my son opens his window (passenger rear) we have to open one of the front windows too or there’s a horrific booming noise and air pressure pulses through the car. Does anything similar happen with the Tiguan if just the rear window is open?

I saw on a youtube video that the sunroof stops opening a couple inches short automatically and if you press the button again it slides back another few inches but then it gets noisy so I’m hoping this is an indication that VW have already tested and made appropriate adjustments to the systems to allow for different window open options…

I’m not really sure if I “need” an SUV or not – my wife talked me into the XC60 over the Superb 3 years ago but the truth of the matter is her two main justifications were the higher position for me to get in and out which kinda made sense at the time – the majority of my disability is weakness in my left leg but after a couple months it became more obvious that the height wasn’t really a benefit for me as, getting in it just means I have to lift my left leg higher, and when it comes to getting out, it’s really the right leg that does most of the work and (so far) that’s unaffected.  She was also keen on the 4wd (well AWD) but again, that’s more about the fact that she is from the mountains of Pennsylvania and it isn’t really that helpful in the North-East of England. The couple of times I’ve noticed the rear wheels doing any work have been on a bend when the back end stepped out on me BECAUSE of the AWD lol.

I’m completely comfortable admitting that I’m a bit of a geek and the tech in the Volvo is VERY last generation, that and the stop-start which I HATE are probably my two main moans about the car – it’s served us well enough but we’re due for a change so I’m wondering if I should have stuck to my guns 3 years ago and gone with the Superb which is why I was pleased to see it finally pop back onto the scheme.  As for the Tiguan, there’s no denying that will tick my geek boxes.  I tried to call Roger at JCT earlier but he wasn’t in this afternoon (bloody part-timer lol) so will give him another call tomorrow and find out about the offer and any availability issues – at least then I’ll have a complete picture to make my decision on.

Kinda the point I was making. Unless you’re some kind of amorphous shape Tetris savant, the litres is pretty much meaningless beyond “Yeah, that’s pretty big” or “That’s tiny!”. There is, for MY uses (manual folding self propel wheelchair, walking stick, and a family with shopping etc), MORE space in the Superb hatch at 625L than there is in the Outlander at 913L.

Definitely the start-stop for me – it’s borderline dangerous in the XC60 I have at the moment as the power steering shuts down when the engine shuts off which makes it a real pain when slowing down for a tight junction when you really want to pre-turn the wheel a little to get ready to go around the bend. Might not be as bad if it actually waited for the car to stop but it shuts off the engine before the car actually stops and I don’t personally believe it makes any real difference to the economy.

Can’t say I’m happy about the lack of a spare wheel but, touch wood, in the last 33 months it hasn’t bitten me in the backside.
