Motability say that dealers CAN charge extra for metallic but the vast majority don’t and, as pointed out above, BMW’s own literature specifically says it’s no charge – double check the colour you asked for is definitely a standard metallic though – they absolutely can charge extra for Pearls and Special colours

Think he means Front, not Four but I may be wrong…
On another note, Q1 hasn’t brought me any realistic last-minute alternatives to the R-Line I currently have on order so it looks like another 3 years for me with a car which is good but not exactly what I wanted lol – just done that in the XC60. I REALLY want a 360 camera, NEED an Auto and want the biggest boot I can get my hands on and £2200 really is the most I can afford as an AP. Was hoping the rumoured Xcellence LUX Taracco would appear (it did) with a sensible AP (for me it isn’t) so Tiggy it is, just have to put up with having to remove and refit the wheels on my chair every time I get it out of the car as the boot is just a little small for it with the wheels fitted.
Don’t suppose anyone knows if there are accurate folded measurements for the chairs you can get as an add-on to the scheme right now. I have a decent chair now courtesy of my local council but I would be willing to pay the £100 for one of those if it’d save me 3 years of removing and refitting the wheels.

December 30, 2019 at 8:56 pm in reply to: Android Auto 10 review: Google's latest update tested #101765I have a brand new Google Pixel with Android 10 on it and the app on there is still called Android Auto. It does work outside an enabled car (current XC60 doesn’t have AA) but I do take issue with the statement about wireless AA only being available on aftermarket head units – I’m sure I saw somewhere that the new VW Passats are wireless AA equipped and I doubt it’ll be the only car on the market which has it already (although I freely admit I didn’t go and check the specs of every car on the market lol)

I’ve uninstalled McAfee on more occasions than I can count for customers but didn’t want to outright call it out – but I will not argue with Joss – I personally wouldn’t choose to use it on anything.

Have you tried reading (deciphering might be a better word) the info which comes up under “View Site Report” – a lot of these are over-conservative issues which would take several things in conjunction to actually be an issue – for what it’s worth, I’m a bit of a geek and semi-paranoid in nature and I’m not worried – the SSL certificate is in order and the couple of online scans I ran didn’t bring anything notable up.
Sometimes it can be as simple as an out-of-date version of some software being used when the latest version is fractionally more secure in as little as one specific way which can cause a “Possible” issue.
To put it into non-geeky terms, it could be something equivalent to something along the lines of a Tyre pressure sensor not working occasionally – it doesn’t mean you have a flat or shouldn’t drive.

You can “game” the system a little in your situation – there is, technically, nothing stopping you ordering on 31st december, then looking again at Q1 and if there’s something better for you, cancelling your order and re-ordering in Q1. If your wait ends up taking you into Q2 you COULD cancel AGAIN and reorder in Q2. It’s a bit of hassle, and a bit sneaky on the dealers, but it’s hard to be too sympathetic to them with all of the horror stories we hear about people being messed around BY the dealers. Remember that, until you actually enter your PIN when you collect the car, you are free to walk away at any point.

The rear ones look ok but the fit on the front is terrible – definitely a case of a generic mudflap they are claiming fits, not one specifically designed for the car

I had a work colleague years ago who had an automatic 3.0 Opel Monza – once a week he’d borrow his wife’s fiesta and drive around at 30 mph flicking between 3rd and 4th and back over and over just because he missed changing gear lol

Some of the offerings from Peugeot are CLAIMING serious MPG nowadays – might be worth a look. The 1.5 diesel is close to 70 officially and they’re not a small vehicle

Yes it’s my opinion, but it’s an opinion based on driving a 190bhp SUV for the last three years, test driving a few 150bhp SUV’s in the last couple of months, and 7 years of driving pretty much everything under the sun while working for a big local Bodyshop.

December 8, 2019 at 11:25 pm in reply to: Decision. BMW Gran Tourer Vs VW Tiguan Allspace. Urgent Thoughts please…. #99238Unless you get very lucky and find one in stock somewhere, the Christmas issue definitely kills the Allspace – they’re built in Mexico, then shipped to Germany for final “stuff” and the current delivery time from the order is as bad as 7-9 months (this is what killed it as an option for me as I want out of my current car as soon as I can).
The boot size on the BMW isn’t great compared to the Allspace but if it’ll work for you, they’re nice enough cars. I only sat in one for a minute or two as I then wrote it off of my list for the boot space so can’t really say much about the comfort level longer term, and I never drove it.
IF you’ll consider another option, the Seat Tarraco is worth a look – you get the digital dash, 7 seats, most of the same components from the Allspace, similar boot space etc. Seat don’t do anywhere near as much in the way of options as other brands so again, probably have a decent chance of finding one in stock somewhere if you’re willing to travel."Man is born in freedom, but he soon becomes a slave, in cages of convention, from the cradle, to the grave."
“Only” 134? In a corsa? That’s plenty lol

You may have a point with the towing comment. When I chose the D4 in the Volvo over the D5, I did my usual googling and other research and the general consensus was that if you DIDN’T tow, you’d probably never notice the difference between the 190bhp D4 and the 220bhp D5. Even though it was only a £50 upgrade, I decided to go with the 4 as it would never tow anything.

Can’t agree with you there Georgie – I’m currently driving an XC60 with 190bhp and it is way more than is NEEDED to move the car – the 0-60 is a little under 8 seconds and the 150bhp Tiguan I’m currently waiting on has a 0-60 of 9 seconds which is still more than quick enough for joining motorway traffic or getting off of the line. My last car was a Peugeot 407 with a 9.8 second 0-60 and that was plenty quick enough to be more than safe.
The slowest Grandland I could find numbers for quickly does 0-60 in just over 11 seconds so I’m fairly confident that your experience the other day was down to the driver, not the car.I do think some of the lesser SUV’s with sub 120bhp could well be a potential issue but they aren’t very common, fortunately, but 180 as a minimum is a little bit of a stretch IMO.

Can’t imagine these having a decent residual value which will make them either a no-go full stop, or high AP which will leave them way behind the competition on the scheme. Might be a bit of a bargain for the cash-buyer but…

December 7, 2019 at 1:23 pm in reply to: UK’s most dangerous drivers: car dealers, priests and tree surgeons in the frame #99073Statistics taken without context can be misleading – I wonder how the numbers would add up if they accounted for the amount of time driving for one thing – most of the higher ratings are on people who would traditionally spend a lot more time behind the wheel. Additionally, I don’t think you can take the solicitors or professional footballers (who can easily afford good solicitors) at face value as they’re undeniably in a better position than most to fight a case.
While I don’t doubt, for a second, that males (especially young ones) are worse than females but I do wonder if it’s actually 6x or if that figure is enhanced by the average males’ inability to flirt their way out of a ticket lol – that isn’t a general sexist thing, that’s 100% based on my personal experience as I’ve been a passenger 3 times in my life when the woman driving did exactly that (one time was my girlfriend at the time lol – I didn’t mind – was in Australia at the time, and the fines there get scary, saved us a good chunk of change).

Looks like they nailed the delivery time too – had a peek on your earlier post and saw you ordered 3 months ago to almost to the day with an ETA at the time of early December. Ordered my R-Line late October and was given a delivery estimate of Late Jan early Feb – if your timeline is anything to go by, should be pretty close…

I used to work in a bodyshop and probably a quarter of the work through the place were brand-new cars damaged in transit. Depends on the amount of damage but I’m with Jack, it’s unlikely to be a complete new door – a door skin or a repair is more likely unless it was severely damaged in which case I’d be paying close attenti0n to the hinges and locking pins etc, basically anywhere the door physically attaches to the car when closed.

Odd you should say that. I was driving when the notification came through and only glanced at the screen and I thought I saw 15/1 – was baffled when I went through the emails and sms etc later once i was out of the car and couldn’t find a date

Am I missing something here? I got an email and an SMS today about my Tiguan R-Line telling me that I have a confirmed build week but I can’t see what that date/week is anywhere…

November 10, 2019 at 8:26 pm in reply to: Motability Car Sales Person How Much Do They Get Paid Told Me £45 per lease #95992In response to the original question, I was told (by one of the Motability specialists who said he has recently moved from doing Motability at Hyundai) that at my local skoda dealership, the SALESMAN gets £100 per lease.
I’ve also had figures of £250, £400 and £500 from different dealers as the amount the dealership gets out of a deal.

Can’t say for sure what the situation is now, but several years ago before I myself became disabled, I worked as a carer for a lad who had a motability Fiat Doblo. Some kids threw some stones at it and put several dents in the bonnet – when he reported it to motability, they basically said he could have it fixed if he wanted to, but as it’d been reported it wouldn’t affect his GCB – I can’t say if it did or didn’t as we fell out well before the car went back but I do remember him getting the full GCB on the Ford Galaxy he had before the Doblo and that surprised the hell out of me as the driver before me had NOT looked after it in the slightest. I was genuinely worried he was going to get a couple of grand of bill when it went back, not a cheque in the post…
