is that stingray or captain scarlet, spectrum?
a few have them not sure of the procedure but there have been threads before where people have had them put on either by the dealer on pick up or post pick up. may be worth double checking with motability.
July 4, 2019 at 4:23 pm in reply to: are new car designs inadvertantly penalising the disabled? #81786garry, good point i didnt think of that. sureley its not beyond the wit of man to come up with more flexible hoist designs and some money spent on designing car freindly scooter or wheelchairs would be a good use of some of the surplus.
i know prosthetics and wheelchairs have been adapted and redesigned for sports, why not for driving too.
tomas, thats the whole point, anyone is free to do whatever they wish with their dwp/wpms pmnt its a free country. motability is one option, it will never suit everyone as a government scheme it has to have limits as with all govt schemes. this may well mean that to get a particular vehicle you will have to do it privately.
i notice you dont say what your wonder car is.
and there are occasionally private leases that push motability close, jeep have an offer on a renegade longitude for £249 a month at the moment but i prefer the ltd version and that is considerably more than motability.
obviously jeep have a surplus stock of longitudes they need to shift. if that offer or something like it is available in a years time i may go there and save a few quid.but i dont think they will be as understanding about any scuffs at the end of contract and certainly wont give me £600 back.
its not perfect but i think it offers a far better solution than little blue invacars.
July 3, 2019 at 7:09 pm in reply to: Back against the wall why wont Motabilty treat us fairly? #81627vinalspin, i agree totally that has been the biggest problem when choosing a car apart from mini hardly anyone had an automatic available to test drive and rarely in the spec i was interested in.
July 3, 2019 at 7:07 pm in reply to: Back against the wall why wont Motabilty treat us fairly? #81626chrisk i hear what you say but the differential between manual and auto is there for everyone in the uk, manufacturers charge more for an auto they always have done. thats not down to motability.
i do think they ought to offer some assistance though maybe in the form of a grant like the one available to veterans through the veterans agency. if because of your disability you need an auto a veteran can get up to £660 towards the ap. depending on the differetial between manual and auto. not sure how it works if its 0 ap.both mine so far have had an ap. i got a chq within a week of signing for the car.maybe motability could do the same for dwp etc.
July 3, 2019 at 4:49 pm in reply to: Seat leon 2.0 tsi dsg fr sport or mercedes a200 amg line #81612a freind has a leon and he swears by it i think hes on his second, i was in seat the other week and was mainly looking at the bigger cars the ateca etc and the fr trim looked great and has the toys.
true but they dont do autos so no good for me. the best cheap cars i found were the mitsubushi mirage and the suzuki ignis considering the price they have a decent spec.
realistically i think its going to be a while until electric vehicles are a reasonaable price as manufacturers are charging as much as possible to recoup their r&d costs. also if you look at regional differences the uk has always been a cash cow for them if you compare what they charge here to other markets around the world.
if you look at the cost of a decent sized automatic car in the usa compared to what anything similar costs here the difference is huge.
personally “looks good” is quite a way down my list of requirements. as is badge/brand.
so long as i can get in and out without pain and get from a to b without or with as little discomfort then i would be happy.
having said that i currently have a mini 3dr auto which was fine until my back blew up and i am considering replacing it with a bmw i3, but that said i am also considering the c3,jeep,suzuki jimny if it gets on the scheme and a couple of seats offerings as i dont need a big car but do need the higher seat to get in and out easily.and for wpms most of the seats are nil ap or quite low.
but each to their own.
if its like stratstone chesterfield bmw is next door literally to mini.
so shes probably moved 30 feet lol.
1st july to 31st october ? vw changing the quarter dates?
he wasnt saying that, he was replying to those who said that motability should use the surplus to subsidise the ap. not that everyone should have a basic car. as with any govt scheme there have to be limits and overall i think the choice is there. many of the restrictions for the more disabled of us are more to do with the current design of cars. boots are smaller, hoists wont fit as many suvs now have tapered rear ends so the opening isnt tall enough.some marques dont allow options like leather seats etc unless you buy an expensive pack add on. these are not issues down to motability but the fact that many mid to larger cars are all looking the same.
if someone can afford an ap to get a particular vehicle then thats their business but the scheme overall has to have limits and hopefully motability takes into account the changing fashions of design and its impact on the disabled when setting those limits.
unfortunately manufacturers dont take any account of the needs of the disabled when designing cars.
it is a pity in this country that autos are less popular and therefore more expensive and it would be a huge help for the disabled if something could be negotiated about that.
wow 3 lots of damage in 3 and 1/2 months and points not declared! were there other cars/drivers involved? if they are making claims better you speak to rsa rather than them find out from a 3rd party.
another car that looks good in white.
i have always avoided white but more and more i am being tempted for next time.
the i3, ds3 crossback, jeep renegade, mini countryman or the jimny if it comes on the scheme thats the shortlist so far lol.
usually they just get the mot done and i assume service as they sell. i ended up having to go back and get the service as the new car was delayed so we had to extend slightly. i thought it was an odd way of doing it.
ive been hoping the suzuki jimny comes on the scheme. their website has quite a good explanation of ground clearance etc and the 4wd system. all to do with the angle of the front of the car in relation to the front wheel or something. all i know is its awesome offroad, theres a 4wd centre near here wher you can go and play for a day and they have a couple of jimnys as well as land rovers etc and the jimnys are great fun.
i would add the renegade to my shortlist but the nearest dealer is 50 miles away.
given some of the lead times for ice cars recently thats not bad overall. some people were waiting over a year for their cars.
sorry cant help regarding pip i have ptsd and depression along with my physical issues but i get wpms through veterans and i have to say they were very good and understanding about the problems it causes. if anything they were harsher regarding the physical than the mental. it did all take 4 years though to sort it all out so be prepared for a long haul, but dont give up good luck.
really!!!!!!!
im with wigwam
spoke to motability grants ref the wpms veterans grant for auto specifically for the bmw i3 and i was told that the amount would be £660. i was curious as there isnt a manual version.
the ability to work and pay my own way, theres no way i could manage public transport so i would be stuck at home on benefits. that would be disasterous as i have ptsd and depression on top of my physical issues so i dread to think what would happen then. i doubt i would be here.
someone will be getting a severe bollocking, where was the security? given recent terrorist events i would have thought an event like that should have some form of security given the number of politicians attending.
and why cant he move her/apprehend her ? how can he know shes not armed/dangerous.
sorry usual overreaction by people led i notice by opposition politicians.
good luck, will be thinking of you hope it all goes well.
