theres not much in it the kia is ahead as kia seem to have electric cars nailed whereas this is the first electric countryman. the kia has potentially 80 miles more range although with my low mileage and distances its not particularly an issue.
both have most of the nice to haves.
the elec seats are a plus.
whilst test drives etc showed the lower height of the ev4 wasnt painful or awkward the mini was easier to enter and exit.
its close.
i think i am going to get the doctors out of the way and then see if i can get an extended test drive in both and take them on a daytrip somewhere.
ok the gp aknowledges they stuffed up basically the person i spoke to didnt book the doctor to phone.
so we start again wait and we will call but it might not be today.
wow.
i find the motaclarity search a bit better it at lest does it on price order so it starts with those at 0ap the only issue is different trim levels of each model are split. although i suppose if like me your restricted by price it only shows those you can afford.
the search on motability is very poor you used to be able to select all suv’s on a single box now you have to select each size individually and you cant select all at the same time. the best you can select is small and medium together.theres only one car designated large the austral so its not a huge issue. ive reported it several times and once ive got past the people that just say no your wrong and someone actually goes through my selections they say oh yes we will pass that on.never been fixed.
yes you were right there did used to be a new to the scheme button.
ok the dopla was good news unexpectedley,, but then the gp phone appointment never materialised on friday so i am going to have to battle the monday 8am chaos to find out whats going on.
typical.
i can order on 28 feb for 30 may delivery and i will order as soon as possible to fix the price as the top 3 on my list i cant see them going down. two are 0 ap and the other is £47.
the other contenders are 600ish ap, now should they go down and i think the citroen may, then i still have time to reconsider.
but realistically i dont think i will beat the ev4 gt line for 0ap or the mini countryman monochrome 0 ap and a lower weekly pmnt. its a bit of a coin toss but the kia does have 80 miles more range.
but do i need the extra range my longest usual journey is 20 miles return lol.
you see the circles i go in round and round lol.
wow been on the gp online system and the dopla report is on there, seemingly nothing too untoward its only diffused sounds nothing to indicate serious vascular damage just some minor stuff in the background. so the rest was just sciatica playing up under pressure.
so hopefully just some action needed on cholesterol, which isnt too onerous.
good news for a change.
well had the ultrasound dopla this afternoon and its well weird, ultrsound readings at the ankle and behind the knee whilst having blood pressure taken at the ankle then later as normal on the arm.
the pressure must hit the sciatic nerve as you get pain down the leg and along the foot and at the tip of your big toe.also in your buttocks right on the tip of the fleshy part. very strange.
judging by his face i dont think it will be good news and about 3-4 days for results so i dont think we will have anything for tommorrows phone appointment.
heyho
it was tonight 16.30. weird who would have thought an ultrasound being done at the same time as having your blood pressure done at your ankles would cause pain.
i think it somehow pressed on the sciatic nerve or did something to it.
it took 3 attempts to get a proper reading. and i ended up literally with pain in my buttocks you couldnt make it up.lol
3 or 4 days to wait for the results he said but reading his face summats up. i dont think its going to be good news.
@kezo yeh i know, but i still go round in circles lol. roll on the 28th and i can put it to bed.
the main thing that bothers me with these chinese cars is the mpg most are below 40mpg which is dire.
even the hybrid mg hs trophy ive been looking at is only just over 50mpg which when you compare it to others toyota hybrids over 60mpg isnt great.
not a huge issue as at most i am going to do 15k over 3 years so in terms of monthly cost its not a huge issue i just dont want to spend more than i have to.
that said i am considering electric without home charging lol. i know i know i dont need telling again lol.
6 weeks solid ive been at it and i am still faffing around not making a decision. looking at every site possible about every car possible. i do like the ev 4 though but do i? do you think we will get the fastback version? or is it too coupe y.
January 28, 2026 at 9:16 pm in reply to: PIP ‘Certificate of Entitlement’ – Is there such a thing? #336867this is something i am a bit concerned about when i go to order the new car. usually every april i get a breakdown from veterans agency detailing the various components of my war pension including the portion they send to motability. but last year all they sent was a letter detailing the total amount to be paid into my bank as a total sum no mention of wpms or breaking the war pension down as also and disability pension just the total into the bank they did say in the letter the change was due to time constraints and that they were busy. so the only thing i have detailing wpms is 2023’s letter detailing 2023 amounts.
@bigdave any ideas?yes unfortunateley i am not expecting good news.
peripheral vascular disease is suspected. partly hereditary as thats what killed my dad and it wasnt nice, basically his arteries clogged up from his toes bit by bit up his legs until they cut off blood supply to major organs, the last 3 months of his life he was bedbound in agony ending up with an open morphene drip. debateable as to wether the morphene or the disease got him.
due a phone appointment on friday to discuss blood results from last week high cholesterol etc so i expect they will add to the statins to try and bring it down but if the doplar shows clogging then some surgery may be needed. none of which looks fun. if it progresses i could end up having bits lopped off.
@DougieB, itsthe mg offer that got me started the chesterfield dealership have refused to give anything off for wpms but the sheffield one has said they will match it even if it means cashback chesterfield were very wishy washy and refused to confirm any sort of deal unless i was there to sign a deal.
as it happens the deal is for delivery by 31 march so i miss out as my renewal is 28 feb for 30 may handover.
mark, yes where the ap is over 2k for pip its easy and is pretty good a difference of 1708.20. they do that qite well,if the pip ap is below 1k its not so clear cut. they do seem to be quite generous with their estimate of pip increases and i wonder how close they actually are.
i am not going to lose too much sleep over it as i said it was chesterfields refusal to offer anything concrete that annoyed more than anything.
anyway its probably going to be the ev4 now anyway and theres no ap to worry about lol.
i agree with you about the kia showroom, i went to worksop and it was a former ford showroom. right in pride of place was the ev3 air and the ev4 gt line next to each other. perfect as both exact models and trim i wanted to see right next to each other.
i agree the air trim in the ev3 is perfectly fine it has pretty much everything you need. in the end i went for the ev4 gt line as both air and gt line are 0 ap on wpms so might as well and the seats are an improvement over air.
they even had an ev4 fastback in the showroom will be interesting if that comes on the scheme but it is very marmite it either suits you or it doesnt and the looks are a bit out there.
i had a countryman previously and even i was suprised at how big it is now and i did like the test drive buut i think the extra range in the ev4 will win out.
January 27, 2026 at 11:09 am in reply to: Motability Deals & Special Offers Q1 2026 (1st January 2026 to 31st March 2026). #334342eric stead sheffield mg have confirmed they would give the same discount to wpms in the form of cashback etc. hurray for them.
sure enough:
mini countryman monochrome
on wpms £81.46 x 52 x 3 = £12707.76.
on pip etc £77.05 x 52 x 3 = £12019.80 a difference of £687.96 reduced by any annual increases as its t/a.
citroen c3 aircross hybrid 145
on wpms ap £627 £86/wk x52x3 =13416.00+ap= £14043.00
on pip ap £1299 £77.05/wk x 52 x 3 = £13318.80.
a difference of £724.20
you can order 3 months before lease end date eg i can order 28 feb for 30 may delivery obviously production times may vary but you keep your current car until new one arrives.
you simply hand your old car to dealer you pick up new car from same day.
there are some issues with car supply to ni due to brexit issues as they require conformity certificates but as to the lack of variety i think thats just down to the fact its a smaller market.
January 27, 2026 at 6:52 am in reply to: Motability Deals & Special Offers Q1 2026 (1st January 2026 to 31st March 2026). #334326still no reply from chesterfield mg ref wpms, have now emailed eric stead sheffield with same question.
even in the ad above the show wpms as still the standard ap no reduction.
sureley thats wrong.
i know its for cars reg by 1 march so no good for me as i cant even order until 28 feb but has to be unlawful?
i put in a request for increase in war pension over a year ago all i have had are a couple of emails basically saying we are busy we havent forgotton you we are processing your claim.
last time it took over 2 years so i am not holding my breath.
the explorer the heat pump is a £1050 extra.
there are some who say its not really a necessity in this country as its not cold enough.
i am a newbie as fare as electric is concerned i am sure there are others better versed in these things.
depending on your needs sizewise the mini is bigger than it looks although no heat pump likewise the ev 3 but only a heat pump on the gt-line-s as a 900 option.

on the car search you can now pick items like heat pump as a required item.above is electric vehicles with a heat pump
to be fair most on motability do not have permanent and substantial alterations made.a hoist is not a substantial and permanent adaption nor are most hand controls.
so unless your having an adaption such as yours glos guy they would not qualify anyway.
January 23, 2026 at 2:32 pm in reply to: revisiting options renault symbioz, cupra formentor ,nissan quashqai #334186@MFillingham, that is it exactly, i am so used to reps not wanting to do anything until the window opens i was a little suprised. as you say what if it arrives early? i will query that when i speak to him next. i am going to wait until mg give me an answer regarding their discounts for pip etc to see what they come up with for wpms and the citroen guy also seemed keen to do a deal so purley out of curiosity i will wait for that.
just pleased theres a clear winner.
January 23, 2026 at 1:16 pm in reply to: revisiting options renault symbioz, cupra formentor ,nissan quashqai #334178yes i know, i think it was his keenness that put me off a bit if you know what i mean. i am not used to reps allowing you to order before the window opens plus i am a suspicious sod.
i think i will let things cool a bit next week then have another word with the landlords if i havent pissed them off totally.
maybe see if they will put it behind the back gate, its a lot closer to the front and would be suitable for either side of the bungalow with an extention cable.you cant open the gate from this side only from the back garden side so should address their concerns ref access.
