“or the date on which this Agreement is terminated in accordance with the terms set out in Contract Hire Terms and Conditions”.

I suspect it allows them to stop the 1 and 2 year extension. If not then!

Maybe motability what you to take out a new contract.

In the past you could ask motability for a price to buy the car at the end of the contract. Which I did several times, but the price was always at the top end you would expect to pay at a main dealership. No warranty of any kind was offered.

I have lost trust in Motability. I paid for me, a high advance payment sure in the knowledge that provided I kept under a certain milage I would be able to extend the lease for a further 2 years. This has now been removed. No consultation. No warning. No it starts for new contracts from a certain date.

It seems it’s open season on the disabled. The one thing motability should have done, stand up for disabled rights. Well in my view they have rolled over and are awaiting for the next requirements from the government.

Max advance payments reduced probably, this reducing choice even more.

It may not be the end for motability. But it’s the end of the motability we all once knew.

EV pay per mile is counter productive!

Effect of the 3 p/mile EV tax on Government income from EVs

            On EV sales
The pay-per-mile charge (3 p per mile for battery EVs, 1.5 p for plug-in hybrids) is forecast to reduce EV sales.
            OBR projections:
440,000 fewer EVs sold over 2028–2031 due to the tax.
Other Budget incentives partially offset this, adding 130,000 sales.
Net reduction: ~310,000 EVs over the forecast period.
            B. On government income
Revenue from the 3 p/mile charge
            Average EV drives ~8,500 miles/year → £255 per EV/year.
If all 310,000 “lost” EVs had existed, total revenue: ~£237 million over 3 years.
Lost VAT and vehicle tax due to fewer EV sales
            VAT (20% of average £35,000 EV) × 310,000 cars ≈ £2.17 billion
Vehicle excise duty (VED) ≈ £31 million
            Net financial effect:
            Revenue from tax: £237 million
Revenue lost due to fewer sales: £2.2 billion
Overall net: ~£1.96 billion loss over three years
Basically if the above is correct then the government will make a loss of £1.96 billion.
            Madness
So in simple terms: for every 1 mile you drive and pay 3 p, the government loses about 28 p elsewhere because some EVs aren’t sold.

Well we have been told certain brands will no longer be on the scheme. Looked at the cars on the cars now left on the scheme and the maximum advance payment seems unchanged. So removing certain brands is not about costs!

                    Hi

I have always believed that motability was set up to provide a way for the UK government to support the entire UK motor industry.

However motability customers if given a “free” choice will select 97% of the time a car not made in the UK.

Only 7% of cars on the motability scheme are built/assembled in the UK.

The decision of Motability to remove certain “luxury” brands wholesale from the scheme, thus removing customers choice.

In my view this is being done to pander to certain views of the press. Our Government now looking everywhere to find ways to stay in power. Thus hoping the votes lost by this move will be more than offset by those that believe motability customers should not be allowed to drive “luxury” cars.

                    What next?

How to move from 7% UK cars to 50% UK cars on the scheme by 2035. It could be done by UK motor manufacturers building as good as Chinese/Korean cars at a competitive price. Then motability customers will be able to decide themselves. But probably the advance payments will be used to guide customers into UK cars.

Perhaps we are seeing the end of motability.

If it comes in, can the government introduce it retrospective. It’s taxing miles driven before the tax comes in. My car is 2 and half years old will I need to pay tax on the  miles already covered?

                        Hi All.

I have been wondering why the government would do something so stupid. The stated goal of the government is to promote EV take up. They are even offering cash to reduce the upfront cost of a new EV. Yet the 3pence per mile will put some people off getting an EV.

Does not make sense, just up the yearly car road tax!

Then, for me the penny dropped. Car manufacturers have mandated targets to meet. Fail and very big fines will be leved on them. Could it be the Government is looking for a big payday if the car manufacturers miss there targets.

                        I could be wrong!

If the Kia PV5 people carrier becomes available on the motability scheme I would be very interested it being our next vehicle. Obviously the advance payment and subject to a lengthy test drive would need to be OK. But being an EV I would see as a big plus.

                            Hi

Have been a Motability customer for many years. I was always told by Motability, pay the advance payment and they then take your PIP or DLA. All you need pay for is fuel.

Servicing, tax, insurance and tyres are all covered.

So when was all you need pay for is fuel and any subscriptions added.

I have searched the Motability and cannot find anything to do with subscriptions.

When last in Norway I had the opportunity to drive both rear wheel drive car and a 4 wheel drive car both fitted with winter tyres. The rear wheel drive was just fine. But on more demanding roads, going up hill with sharp turns the 4 wheel drive with winter tyres felt a lot more secure. I was amazed as in the UK most traffic would be stuck or moving very slowly. I was driving slowly as my UK driving brain said stop driving and get off the road. The cars normal driver just drove as if the was no ice or snow.

Hi I have software V2.65, ID3 Max V3.2. So far no charger issues other than the usual.

Your car is not charging as expected.

Every now and then the charger will fail to see the cars current state of charge and therefore assume the car is at 0%.

This has not been a problem as 50% of the time the charger will see the true state of charge at some point. Or the car stops the charge when it gets to what it is set at i.e. 80%.

Over some 20 odd years on mobility. If when looking for a replacement car. If you come right out and inform the sales person you are a motability customer.

1: sorry but our motability guy is on holiday.

2: it’s our motability guys day off.

3: Our motability guy is at another dealer location.

Then all other sales persons find something else to do. Than talking to myself and wife.

                                      Better not to mention motability.

                                        Hi all

Not good news, talked to VW UK today.

Dispute me pointing out that at the time of ordering our Max, the only mention of subscription was We connect and it was for 3 years  That no sales person ever talked about subscriptions.

                                        VW ”

“Thank you for your contacting Volkswagen Digital Services.

All prices are available for display to you via the VW Connect-shop before you conclude your order.

We would like to inform you, that you have to log in to VW Connect-shop 14 days before your licenses expire to see about the prices.”

In other words some cars get 2 years We connect Plus and Traffic assist with mass data and other cars get it for 3 years. It depends on the date the car was built, the software it came from the factory with, the software it’s been updated to now.

I asked about the voucher code that can be input at the point of ordering the “services” and was told a firm “No”.

I find it disappointing that VW are forcing some of their customers down the subscription route. But I’m not surprised, VW via subscription “services’ have found a way for cars to keep giving VW money each year.

From memory I remember reading on a post. That the 2 years would be extended to 3 years. But like a lot of VW marketing promising, it’s been removed. If I can find that info will post here. It said something like the 2 years would be automatically extended to 3 years at the time of renewal.

From driving in Norway it’s all down to the tyres on the car. Each car has 2 complete sets of tyres, summer set and a winter set.

Winter tires are mandatory between 15th November and 15th March. If such tires are mounted, they must be installed on all four wheels. A minimum tread depth of 3 mm is recommended.

With the HV battery at 0c the car could only manage 4.5kwh from our 7.5 KwH home charger.

Just before this the battery heater had kicked in as the battery was at -1c and was pulling 1.5Kwh. the battery heater only starts once the car is in a drive mode. It took about 8 minutes for the battery to go from -1c to 0c.

When at a DC charger with a cold battery eg 0c the battery will heat up untill it reaches 25c. As it heats up the charge rate goes up as well.
