      Hi

Just an update to my complaint I made on Saturday 13 April and got a reply this morning…

“Thank you for the enquiry form you sent us on 13 April 2024 regarding our recent policy changes.

I am very sorry to hear that you are unhappy that we no longer offer the option to purchase your vehicle at the end of the lease. I do appreciate that this is disappointing as you were hoping to keep the vehicle within your household.

The main reason for us making this change is because one of the fundamentals of the Motability Scheme is to support customers with worry free motoring, and the best way to do this is via a fully rounded lease package. To ensure we align to this value, we have changed our policy to no longer provide purchase prices to our customers.

I would like to assure you that Motability Operations takes all feedback seriously and I have made a record of your email on our records. However, if you remain dissatisfied, please let us know and we can arrange for a letter to be sent outlining your escalation route, which would be the Financial Ombudsman Service.

I understand this may not be the answer you were hoping for today, so if you would like to discuss this further please contact our Customer Experience Team by phone 0300 456 4566, or by using our Live Chat 8am to 7pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 5pm Saturday.

      Kind regards”

Is it worth requesting escalation as mentioned at the end?? As this change policy  has been made during my lease period but I don’t know if Motability previously had it written in the policy whether you could purchase the vehicle at the end of lease period.

I don’t have any hope of getting a decent reply but feel that the more ppl put in a complaint then they may/could realise that a lot of customers are not happy.

        All the best.

          Hi

For those who are interested, I have submitted my complaint via Motability online complaints form – copy below…

          “Hi

I have been on the Motability scheme since 2016 with very good service provided by Motability and the dealership.

Our current vehicle is on the 5 year extended lease which expires in November this year.

We have currently been searching for a new vehicle on the scheme for the past several months for a similar large SUV but they are either a full EV vehicle (which is not feasible for us due to several reasons) and/or the Advance Payments are very high which my daughter cannot afford.

Our plan now was to look for a new medium size SUV/Estate on the scheme with lower AP for my daughter’s use BUT also were hoping to buy back our current vehicle as a second vehicle in the house which is a large SUV and accommodates my daughter and her two young children (2 year old and 1 year old) and carer/appointee.

However, after reading some news on the internet, I’m very disappointed to learn that Motability are not allowing exiting lease customers to buy back the vehicle at the end of the lease.

If the above is true, then I think this is not fair on your customers who genuinely need a second car in the house due to the above circumstances and also the fact that we have paid a large amount of AP on our current vehicle plus the monthly Disability payments direct to Motability for the past four years.

I am sure other customers on the scheme would like to buy the vehicle back at the end of their lease for various reasons so I request Motability to reconsider their decision seriously and re-instate the option of buying back their current vehicle on the scheme, otherwise I think Motability will start losing customer, who like me would not lease from Motability, but buy direct from the dealer either in cash or HP/PCP which could work out better for them and keep their vehicle at the end.

Can you please reply to my complaint either in writing or by email.

          Regards”

            Hi Bluie60

I totally agree with you and I’m disappointed aswell and I would also like to put in the complaint BUT I’m reluctant/concerned  to do it at present as what if they turned round and said to me yes you can buy the car as I am still looking for a new car for my daughter on the Motability scheme but have not found one yet but need to find one before my 5 year lease ends in November.

If anyone has any advise/recommendations on way round this then pls let me know and I will put the complaint in now online.

Maybe ppl can share in here as to maybe a standard sort of complaint as I’m another one not happy with not being able to buy the car back.

            Thanks

              Hi

yes agree I am quite disappointed to read these latest posts about not being able to buy at the end of lease.

I have been looking at new cars on Motability recently for my daughter as our current 5 year lease expires in November and I would like to buy back our current Rav4.

Should I email them now as anonymous to make my complaint about not being able to buy the car back as I don’t want to be in a situation where if they say yes you can buy it and then have the “30 day” periods to buy it or lose it as I’ve not ordered the new car on the scheme yet.

Would be interested to know what sort of details ppl are putting into their emails to Motability as I don’t like to ring them.

              Thanks

                Hi

Just an update, rang local dealership and they tell me that it will be the new facelift model offered and could be a 6-8 month wait  depending on the trim chosen and stock availability.

@Ionic – I think you’re wrong as  there are a few ppl on this thread who have replied to my query and answered my questions.

                  @kezo
and others – Many thanks for opinions and recommendations and will try and make sure I get the new Tucson if we like  it.

I have seen the Suzuki Across but that’s out of budget range at the moment but thank you to all who replied. 👍🏻

                    Hi

Ive been searching for SUV for the past few months as currently have a RAV4 Hybrid and 5 yr lease comes to an end in November this year.

However, as was waiting for the new Rav4 to come on the scheme as our current one is nice and roomy and comfortable, now quite disappointed with the high AP and the fact that it’s plug-in hybrid.

So now looking at different model SUVs and came across the Hyuandai Tucson N Line/N Line S as I understand they are mild hybrid but lower AP than the Rav4.

Therefore, what are peoples opions about the Tucson N line range and are they good cars and what are they like driving wise as I’ve always been a Toyota drive and now that the fact my daughter who’s car this is for has two kids (2yr and 1hr) so need quite a roomy car like the rav4.

P.S. Are these Tucson N models the new 2024 range?

                    Thank you.

I see that the Toyota RAV4 Plugin-hybrid is on the scheme BUT AP £8000 – no way I can afford that even if I inckudecthe NCB and GCB – disappointed.

                            Hi

Is this the new model or are they getting rid of the old model stock

If new model, what’s your opinion on it and the boot space as my Rav4 5 years is going to be up in November this year and there is no new Rav4 on the scheme as yet.

                            thanks

                                        Hi Glosguy

Thank you for going into more detail which makes sense.

So let’s say if I got a price from Motab before the end of my lease and didn’t buy it but found that the car was on sale at my dealer at higher price than Motab, then do you think it’s worth telling the dealer look this is what Motab were offering me to try and get a good negotiation including the fact that I will be getting a warranty aswell.

                                        Thanks

I agree with Chrisk – if you’re the one using your Motab vehicle then you would know how you treated the car.

In my case, I would buy back my Motab vehicle as I know how I’ve treated it and the fact that it’s been serviced every year.

The faq link given by above poster has been there for some time and I’m assuming you can’t but it back after the lease period is complete as I contacted my dealer a few days ago and he told me that the best way is two weeks before exchanging for new one or returning existing vehicle, just ring Motab operations and ask for a purchase price and it would be less than the dealership price.

Totally agree – I would only think of buying it if it was less than the dealer price coz dealers price for my spec I have and the mileage is around 25k which is too much.

if I got a good price from Motab I would think of buying it then get it serviced from Toyota as they give you 1 year warranty for every annual service up to 10 years/100000 miles.

                                              Hi Missingsound7

In answer to your question, I’ve had the Rav4 for my daughter for exactly 4 years now and have had no issues with it and it has done 42000 miles.

Now that her husband has passed his driving, he wants to drive a smaller car for her so I thought let’s see how much I get offered to buy it so that me and Mrs can keep it as we really like it and never really  had any problems with it and serviced on time.

Also, this is a question for anyone – how to Motability get the valuation of the car to offer to you – eg. Do they give you an independent or dealer price.

I’ve just checked in Parkers for a valuation guide and the price I get is £17405-£20000 for a Private price and £20850-£21700 for a dealer price so was wandering if anyone has bought a car back from Motab, what sort of price were you offered and was it a good price.

                                              Thanks

Hi all thanks for you replies.

I think I’ll wait until I’m definitely sure that I want to buy the car – that way o might get a lesser price as the months go by as my 5 year lease ends November 2024 unless we find a good car on Motab to order before then.

Therefore I think I’ll wait til August 2024 to decide whether to buy existing car or not or just place the order for new one which I will be doing whether I buy the existing car or not.

                                                Thanks
