I had a look EV4 & MINI Countryman & the MINI was in a different league in terms of quality, & much bigger, but lacking on range and features.

Be aware the Monochrome looses some features as well as gains some over the standard car. Such as you lose the heated steering wheel. The seats & dash are not as nice.
The wife has always wanted a Red Mini so we went for that.

I’m just pleased there’s a choice as the way things were looking I was expecting to have very little if any choice.
It is ridiculous how they remove cars after a few weeks. Ordered the MINI Countryman the first week of Jan incase it disappeared.

It’s because motability has a max price point of about £45,000.

”Luxury” brands have been removed due to political pressure. They were always only a couple of the cheapest base models anyway.

If you want more luxurious vehicles, you always have the option to use the pip money to lease elsewhere, or finance a used car.

Labour have no interest in keeping it at 2030. They had to bring it forward because it was in its manifesto. They are just waiting to justify pushing it into the future. Their policies are designed to slow down demand for EVs.
They’re so busy trying to appeal to the Conservative & Reform voters, they have lost the support of everyone. Hence their pathetic approval figures.

            From Motability website ..

”When do I need an MOT?

If your car is on a standard three-year lease it will need an MOT test before you can hand it back. You can do this in the last three months of your lease.”

I too had a email offering an extension just after the MOT (less than 5000 miles total)

”We’re inviting a small number of selected customers to apply for a lease extension on your current Motability Scheme vehicle.”

They then rang me yesterday desperately trying to persuade me extend now, even if I go on to order a new vehicle before current lease ends in March. They were very keen so must be profitable for them on very low mileage cars.

EV4 seat height isn’t that bad.  It’s only slightly lower that the Ioniq5 seating and is higher than the Ioniq 6.”

Much appreciate the information. Haven’t seen it in the flesh yet, so it’s good to know it’s not too low.

Could the EV4 be a low AP because they are not selling?

After all it’s not a pretty car, with a boxers broken nose look, & Hatchbacks are not as popular.

Im happy there might be at least one decent spec EV at a reasonable price I can order in Jan. (Assuming the seats are not too low)

Although It would probably be near the bottom of my list. Unfortunately the rest of my list have either been removed from motability or the AP has increased 4 or 5 thousand.

I very much appreciate the info,

I was stressing Q1 2026 APs would be as bad as this current quarter. Fingers crossed we’ll have a number of EV’s with low AP, like a couple of quarters ago. I just need to order quickly before they all disappeared partway through the quarter like last time.

You have to laugh at the Conservatives, they rant as if it’s everybody else’s fault. They forget to mention that they’re the ones who created these problems & implemented these policies that they’re now railing against.
They implemented the 2030 petrol car limit.
They made it easier for people to get PIP higher rate with unprovable psychological disorders, than it is for people with provable physical disorders.

As for Reform, it basically just copying Trump policies. It’s all about making the better off much better off. They’re going to get rid of NHS waiting list within 2 years, how? By giving tax relief to the better off using private healthcare.
Their idea for improvement of schools, tax relief for private schools.
Their idea to stop the small boats is to intercept them in the channel and take them back to France. But they don’t mention that it’s impossible unless France allows it, which there’s no way they would.

People need to read the policies of these parties before getting carried away with the hype.

Labour has just taken pathetic to a whole new level.

Like Trump, it’s easy to promise the earth with no intention of achieving it, but use the opportunity to enrich themselves. (All 3 political parties)

“We’re all doomed”. ..   and rightly so for voting these clowns into power.

I too can order from Dec & I am waiting till January with my fingers crossed.
Never thought I’d go back to a petrol car but unless things improve in January I’ll be priced out of an EV.
Or I might just leave altogether & get a used car.

This was my shortlist a couple of months ago. Pretty devastated now.

I’ve always been quite bullish on EV‘s, but I can’t see the 3p pr mile happening, as the announcement along with other tax rises & disincentives are going to crash demand for EV‘s. I think the 2030/5 deadlines will also have to be moved.

I know as an EV driver, if you can charge at home, it would still be well worth having an EV, but the average person considering changing to an EV will think its not worth the trouble.

Don’t be fooled into thinking this is an EV only plan, if they implement it successfully, petrol and diesel cars will be next, on top of existing taxes.

I think the takeaways from the test was that 4 of the 5 cars easily did over 300 miles of range.

(In a few years that will be 400-500 miles)

if you can charge at home, it would have cost around £5 for a 150 mile round trip. (300 miles)

Most people will rarely if ever use a Public Fast Charger. I haven’t used one in the nearly 3 years I’ve had an EV.

You can start Every day with 300 miles of range (for £5 – zero to 100%)

Low demand for EVs is myth!

What some legacy manufacturers mean is, There’s not enough demand for “THEIR” particular EVs.

First 1/2 of year registrations in Europe of Full Electric (BEV) for 2025 was: 1,193,397

For the first half of 2024 it was: 951,580.
An Increase year on year of  +25%

If “Ford Current demand is only 19,000 a year” that means they are getting Less than 1% of the over 2 million EV sales pr year.

I think it’s more to do with them being too expensive, and using out of date Volkswagen technology.
