WE have had our Countryman Phev for 18 months now and we are really pleased with it.

They are very quick and great fun to drive with enough space to keep everyone happy.

We have a home charger fitted which helps.

The build quality seems good as well as the comfort.

The dealership have been very good and actually gave me the New mini Electric for 24 hours last week to test drive and i must say that is a lot of fun and very quick.

So based on our first 18 months we would recommend the Countryman.

I was in the Merchant Navy at the time and went to the Falklands on the MV Cederbank carrying a cargo of JCB;s and equipment for the building of the Runway, there was a heavy presence of Military on board and we also stopped at Ascension Island on route.

I spent 12 weeks there in the end, some of it due to the crazy weather and not be able to leave Stanley.

I was asked to go again for a year on the Uganda but declined.

The only pic i ever found of the Cederbank and it just happened to have been taken in the falklands while i was on it.

Most dealers in our area have been getting ready to re-open on Monday, you can see all the cars have been placed back on the forecourts in reddiness.

looks like the Garden centres will also be opening.

Talking of the Peugeot 208,i went for an extended test drive in a e-208 on sunday and it is a great little car and very nice to drive, imho probably the best looking small ev there is at the moment.

The one i test drove was the top range GT and the interior is a nice place to be.

The Idea is good and Evezy have become very popular especially for people wanting to change cars on a regular basis,(minimum lease is one month)

Problem now is waiting times for cars which because of the popularity has become long.

Also there’s a £1000 insurance access on any claim you might have to make ever how minor.

And as already been stated you never get the key to the car its all done through your smart phone.

BMW i3 would be £399 a month all in, but only one spec and in one colour(white)is available.

Mine is under my carport which works out well.

I have got a separate switch inside to turn it off when not in use so you don’t get the continuous blue light glowing.

The green light showing is because its in use.

We have a heated front screen  on the Mini countryman Phev which was a £120 option and worth every penny.

Being a phev you can also pre heat the cabin if you wish and have it all toastie for when you leave in the morning.

I have noticed more and more EV and PHEV’S around our area including six Tesla 3’s in the last few weeks as people have finally been taking deliveries.

Today was the first time that i was in a traffic line with three electric cars in a row which were an I-pace then an I3 and my countryman Phev, but you are right it is a slow changing process and to be fair the latest diesels are very clean.

I also think it looks great especially in HSE or X guise which i think will take a lot of sales away from the disco 5  because its better looking imho.

Another shout out for Lexus here, i have owned a RX450H for four years now and the quality and reliability of the cars and customer service from Lexus is why they top the poles every year.

Its amazing how they can’t come up with something like raising the inheritance tax to a realistic amount or even getting rid of it, because imho its just theft from families who have already paid more than enough tax on  that same money, instead they want to keep people from getting there well earned state pensions.

Hi Mike, your C-HR is a full hybrid, mild hybrids do not have an EV mode button where you can drive in electric for short distances at low speeds.

Yes you can, if you wanted to drive in electric all the time you could as long as you charged accordingly and the journeys were within the limit. The Mini has a Max e drive setting so you stay in electric if you wish, but the default setting is hybrid were it will kick in and out of ev automatically, or if you wish you can drive it in petrol only mode with sport setting on which becomes quite brisk.

We have now had our Countryman Phev for almost 8 months and its suits us well. The real life range i’ve had so far in summer is 18 miles and averages 14 in winter. The mpg has crept up as the miles have been put on, we are well into the forties now and its still climbing.

The Mini is great to drive and very quick with great handling, its also a very comfortable solid feeling car,the infotainment system is also good once you get used to it.

I’m lucky enough to have a charger at home so charging isn’t a problem(2.15 hrs for full charge) but i only charge a few times a week as i only go full electric in town and any urban areas, because we live in a village its all countryside between our home and Town so use the petrol and regen for this.

As i say the range might not be enough for some people but its fine for us as we do quite low miles in this car.

The Phev grant stopped in 2018 and the Full EV grant went down from £4500 to £3500.

I think we should remember that this forum helps numerous amounts of people with questions about choosing the right car for them on the scheme as well as any problems that may occur when ordering etc.But it is also a forum for people who enjoy cars and talking about them as we have often done in the car history section. As the current car industry is moving in the direction of electric cars i for one enjoy reading about this in all its forms even if they never will get on to the scheme.
