@Glos Guy
I have now a month left on my contract, and I am still undecided whether to go private or stick with Motability.
Just before Christmas I became the Appointee for my special needs daughter instead of my wife, who does not drive. It was recommended by DWP , and after a home visit the change happened. With the confirmation letter a Statement of Entitlement was included but it had my wife’s name at the top.
I spoke to PIP today to request another Statement of Entitlement with my name on it, which the Motability car dealer would need to copy if I continued with Motability.
I mentioned about purchasing a private car for the use of a disabled person, and how to apply for VED exemption. I was told I would need a Certificate of Entitlement but I could not have one while I had the Motability car.
So unless I a missing something, the private car would need to be registered and taxed as normal, then the class changed and apply for a VED refund once I got the Certificate of Exemption.I have informed Motability that I am now the appointee, and they have amended the data at their end.
Just not sure about the best process for going from Motability car to a private car.
I currently have a Nissan Qashqai E-Power, it’s a good size car, very economical, and it drives like a electric car.
I would like an electric vehicle, I have off street parking, live in a detached property which is about 50 years old but my electricity is on a looped supply to my next door neighbours property.
This would mean a new electrical supply, meaning my driveway getting dug up, so it’s not for me.
I would check your new property is suitable for a wall charger.
Thank you for the information, I have read with interest your posts in the past regarding you purchasing a BMW, and are aware of the benefits you can apply.
My daughter is severely disabled and needs 24hr care but does not require a wheelchair full time. I know I can get a VED exemption certificate, as I have already contacted the PIP people. I have got a letter for no claims benefit from Direct Line Motability Insurance.
The problem with the new shape Q3 is they are only just coming in to the dealers, if they are advertised on Autotrader with a stock picture, they are not at the dealers. Plenty are due in the next two to three weeks. That’s why I wanted a lease extension to give me flexibility.
I will have a look at Drive the Deal, and have used Carlow but prices are no different to Autotrader.
Going to be an interesting 6 weeks. Cheers for the information, much appreciated.
I have posted previously that I requested a lease extension last November, maybe for 6 months or the full 2 years and was refused. Just told they were not doing extensions anymore.
On my fourth Qashqai, lease ending March 6th, 15000 miles, all cars returned with less than 23000 miles in excellent condition.
Motability said I could order a new car up to the end of lease date, and keep the current one until delivery.
New Nissan Qashqai Epower with updated engine has the same AP as before Christmas. With a retail price £38850 for the n connector.
Currently looking to leave the scheme, and buy a “Prestige” car like the Audi Q3 (which was taken off the scheme), new S-Line cars available on Autotrader from £39000.
Taking the Qashqai to Nissan for MOT, then I will do my evaluation of the motoring costs of the Audi against another Motability car.
Only requirement is a boot size of at least 480l for daughter wheelchair etc.
Considered you are signing up to a lease with Motability, were they can apply certain restrictions to some people, but not to everyone, and seem to make things up as they go along doesn’t seem correct to me, but I have enjoyed reading the various comments on this forum, and will continue to do so in the future.
I hope everyone on Motability gets whatever they need to meet their requirements, extensions etc.In the Contract Hire Agreement Terms and Conditions 15.3
At any time after the end of the Minimum Hire Term, we may terminate this Agreement by giving you not less than 14 days written notice.
Other terminations 15.1 are understandable, but 15.3 is down to Motability discretion I suppose.
Reading my current Motability contract dated 7th March 2023, it states in the duration of hire.
The hire term is for a minimum of three years on the start date of delivery of the vehicle (the Minimum Hire Term) , but continuing thereafter until the expiry of a period of twenty four months following the Minimum Hire Term (the Maximum Hire Term) or the date on which this Agreement is terminated in accordance with the terms set out in Contract Hire Terms and Conditions.
What gives Motability the right to change terms in the agreement without prior notification.
A law unto themselves.
I have a Nissan Qashqai with 360 deg cameras, couldn’t do without it.
I went to a car main dealership were parking was horrendous, parking spaces were at an angle which made parking and getting out of the car easy, only trouble was the car park exit at the end of the car park was blocked off with dealership car. Meaning I had to turn the car around in a very tight space with cars all around me, to exit from the entrance of the car park.
Could not have got out unaided without the 360 deg camera.
My current Motability car is my fourth car on the scheme, all the vehicles have been the same make & model which is a Nissan Qashqai. Which meets our special needs daughter (who needs 24hr care) mobility requirements, boot to transport her wheelchair, ease of my daughter getting in and out of the car with assistance.
All the previous cars at the end of the lease have had a mileage of under 23000 miles, and have been in excellent condition. My current car Nissan Qashqai Epower 23 reg has done 15k miles with 3 months left on my current contract. My wife who is the main carer for our daughter, and myself are in our mid seventies, I am the only person who can drive, we have been considering our future, and whether is would be best to go back to purchasing our own car.
Today I phoned Motability, to see if a extension of our lease would be possible, maybe 6 months to give us some leeway for us purchase a car that meets the requirements of our daughter, or if not stay with Motability for another 3 years.
This is the first time in nearly 12 years I have spoken to Motability, and I have been very happy in the service they have provided to myself and my family.
I spoke to a very nice Motability advisor on the phone who took all the relevant details, very understanding, she spoke to some person higher up, and we was refused any extension. I previously mentioned the 16th December deadline date for extensions but was told that’s only if your lease finishes before that date.
99.9% I will be leaving Motabiliy, unless I am unable to find a suitable vehicle, then I will order another Motability car the day before my lease ends.
Very disappointed with the way Motability have treated our family, we have looked after the cars probably better than if they were owned privately.
Last few months looking at the comments on this forum highlights the Motability customers disappointment regarding the current Motability schemes regulations, definitely would not pay the 20% tax on AP, as if they were not expensive anyway.
I am looking at similar cars, I can reorder in mid December for next March to change, so plenty of time yet.
Currently have a Nissan Qashqai N-Connector e-Power, which I have been very pleased with, excellent mpg, comfort, loads of useful functionality, 360 deg camera, high beam assist etc.
This is my fourth Qashqai on the scheme so even though it’s great, I think it’s time for something different.
Looking at a mild hybrid, as my current property is on a looped electrical supply so for a BEV car I would need to have the driveway dug up, and a new electric supply to property.
I will probably cover 15k miles when the 3 years lease is up, so I may extend the lease as an option.I need a boot size with a minimum 450 litres due to having to transport an electric wheelchair.
This week I looked at the BMW X1, also to ask what is the specification of the M Sport, the information I was given is that you get very little being polite, but you can add extras at a cost like sun protective glass ( dark rear windows) £330, technology pack £1680, even then you don’t get blind spot monitoring, which I feel is a good safety feature.
I liked the car, inside features looked good but severely lacking functionality of a Qashqai Epower.
I have looked at the XC40 in the past, and my opinion is it’s a bit dated interior and poor mpg.
Other cars I am considering for my next car are the Cupra V2 mild hybrid Formentor or Terramar.
Other consideration is to buy a discounted BMW X1 with the extra packs included, there are a number on Autotrader.
With the 4k advanced payment and the car missing a significant amount of functionality compared to a mid range Qashqai, I would find it difficult to justify the AP.
