Like Kezo, I have had both with and without but to be honest, it is a feature I use all the time and love it. It depends however on a number of factors, but personally, I don’t think I would have another car without it unless I was forced.

The best thing you can do is look on YouTube for reviews of the cars you have selected, and see what they say about the reversing cameras. Or if you can, perhaps have a look in person, and see how you think they are.

I heard the term CAP, but never knew what it meant in terms of auctions and such. Every day is a school day! Also, I never knew NI was 4 years for MOT, always thought it was 3 years everywhere!

Unless I missed it, the OP did not say when the CU (main CU not the EV) was installed, and as such, could be overdue. And yes, while sometimes EICR is done before EV install, with some of the ‘installers’ that have been seen, is something some don’t even do (ie those who try to cram as many installs in as possible). Some even do drive by, if you know what I mean. It is however why I asked when it was last done, as if it is due, or past due, then I would still highly suggest it.

As I said, that is the EV burning issue aside, and just what I noticed in my general observation.

Who done the electrical installation? From what I can see, EV aside, I don’t like that the tails are showing single insulation on entry to the Henley block which they should be double insulated until inside the block, and there is a CPC is not sleeved which is not compliant.

When did you last have an EICR? I would heavily suggest getting one carried out soon because there, from what I can see, are some things that are easy to rectify but need done for safety.

Fuel economy might not be as good in the Volvo, however the AP cost between is more than enough of a saving that I would not even consider fuel to be an issue. XC40 is comfortable and has a ton of superb features.

Likewise if the car is not ready by your handover date of 07/02/2026 then you keep the current car you have until it is ready but hopefully the dealer will keep you up to date on everything. If they have not said that they will, you can ask that they do keep you informed of all changes and updates.

I have to agree with others. Call the dealership and ask for the motability specialist. After, take your mum with you as it IS her car, so she needs to be comfortable getting in and out. The Škoda someone mentioned earlier is a superb car, but do look at multiple vehicles and when she finds one she gets in and out off, and is comfortable sitting in, then you can perhaps look at test-driving it.

Also just to add, if she needs a wheelchair or such, make sure it can fit in the boot etc… Having a nice car is one thing but having a practical car that fits her needs is critical over the badge.

When searching for insurance, put your browser in to incognito mode too as the cookies will be saved from your last visit so it would not change much. It also can be the same with travel insurance.

Going to the USA without travel insurance is a very risky game that I would not take personally. One slip and a broken leg later, and you’re looking at 5 figures. Not long ago, I read a woman who had no travel insurance and had a medical incident that required her to get a mediflight home, that cost 6 figures.

Best of luck though in your search!

The most important thing was no one was hurt, apart from your pride. It is scary and very upsetting when you are involved in something like this, but accidents are exactly that.

Did you find out why the bonging noise was happening?

Slightly alarming that it took so long for recovery, but I guess it depends on how busy they are, and the location of where you are. I believe they prioritise dangerous locations first, i.e. in the 3rd lane of the M6 for example vs that of a golf club car park.

                        Hi,

According to motability, they changed the rules a couple of years ago in which you can get your next car ordered and collected if you have less than 12 months on your award; however, you can also wait to order and ask motability to extend your lease.

After all, APs are derived by being the difference between the cost to run the car (depreciation, servicing, tax, tyres etc) and the customers sacrificed benefits over the 3 year term, so as long as the AP reflects all additional costs then why not?

How can they then justify the sharp increase in AP over the past 2 quarters? Volvo XC40 for example Q1 £1499 Q2 £2499 Q3 £3199. So March 31 it was £1499 and yet July 1 it is now £3199. More than double and in those 13 weeks, I do not believe that car prices have increased wholesale. It feels like they are not using the AP for the difference between the cost to run the selected car, but to average out the loss of EVs that they have had over the last few years on the scheme to keep their profit margins healthy.

They have nothing to lose ordering today if they are happy with the car they seen. The AP could go up by a chunk next month (Q3 prices) however it could also drop, and if it does drop and is not just a few pounds then they could ask if they can cancel then re-order the car meaning they pay the lower price.

Hi all, I have 2 questions about the XC40 I hope someone can answer.

I was looking at the mild hybrid and I wondered how the pre-heating of the vehicle worked. I heard in some cars it will turn the engine on, but if you have on street parking, this is illegal to do without you being in the vehicle. So if anyone can clarify this would be great.

Also, does any version offer the 360 camera, or do i need to add that on as an add-on at the time of order? I know there is the black edition, but I can’t see if that comes as standard with it.

                              Thanks all 🙂

I do use my blue badge for when I am out and about at shops and where BB spaces are, but sometimes if visiting friends or family I need to park in a pay and display place, which is normally parallel parking.
