Has anyone on here taken delivery of an XC40 T3 Auto in any spec as yet?
If so what do you make of it, and what kind of mileage per gallon are you getting?
What do you like about it and what have you found annoying?

Hi Macca, I haven’t taken delivery of one yet, but I have a T4 auto on order.
However I kept wondering if the T3 would be a more sensible choice so I eventually found one to test drive when on holiday in Shropshire and Herefordshire, there being no T3s in East Anglia at all.
It’s fine, lovely and smooth up to the 4000 RPM I tried it at. Performance was more than adequate, with the car having a relaxed feel. No real giveaway in terms of vibration or noise that it’s a 3 cylinder.
However, I was left with the feeling that I may be wanting more in terms of performance, as the T4 is so effortless.
On quizzing 3 separate Motability specialists on T3 Vs T4, all said the same thing. If it was their money, the T4 would win. The T3 runs out of puff above 4000 RPM and can feel wanting when overtaking on the motorway. As I believe they get paid the same whatever engine we go for, I took their comments as useful rather than up-selling.
So despite the £500 difference in AP, we’re sticking to our T4 order in Inscription trim.
They also said that the T3 will only be slightly better on economy as the engine is working harder to pull along what is a heavy car.
I think if we hadn’t tried a T4 first, I’d be very happy with the T3.
We’ve gone for Denim Blue with blonde leather. The T3 we tried was in Pebble Grey which looked fantastic, but my wife didn’t like it as much!October 18, 2019 at 11:37 am #92241
<p style=”text-align: left;”>Hi 72dudes, many thanks for that insight. I wouldn’t be keen to consider a T4 with mpg reported as being in the 20’s. Whether my casual interest in the T3 grows into anything more only time will tell. When we decide we want to change (as we’re now in an extension) then i’ll really knuckle down the options and compare tge specs etc.

When yours lands i would really appreciate a straight view on what you make of it, good and bad, and i’d love to see the photos.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I must admit. the Inscription jumps out more to me than the R Design, as i’m not keen on a black roof or alcantara seats, and I too like the look of the Denim Blue but i rekon its too similar to the shade of our current Santa Fe …

That said, it may look good with the Amber leather and the dark headlining….
whether I ultimately have the bottle to see that through, or settle for black remains to be seen ?
I like the fact that the pano roof is an option as I never use one due to having light sensitive eyes, so begrudge paying for one.October 18, 2019 at 11:56 am #92243
How much is the T4 auto advance payment ?

Yes will do. It’s quite a wait, March 10th, but we found a dealer who was happy to take a deposit well ahead of the official renewal letter to secure a build spot.
I understand the T3 is currently on a very long lead time,upto 6 months, T4 slightly better.October 18, 2019 at 12:04 pm #92245
T3 Inscription petrol auto £1499
T4 Inscription petrol auto £1999
T4 inscription Pro petrol auto £2199
T4 inscription petrol Awd auto £2599October 18, 2019 at 12:11 pm #92247
@Menorca Mike, Inscription is £1999, sporty R Design is £1799.
Annoyingly the Pro versions are only £200 more but you have to have 19″ wheels and lower profile tyres, no option to keep the 18″ ones or have them swapped by dealer.
@macca, I would say Denim blue is quite different to yours, grey in dull light and a deeper blue in the sun. We’re going for the pale interior and headlining because our current Audi Q3 is black with black interior!October 18, 2019 at 12:16 pm #92248
So I take it this is your chosen colour combo 72dudes? …October 18, 2019 at 12:20 pm #92249

Johnsons Volvo seem to be offering a good discount on the AP of an XC40, if theres one near to you …October 18, 2019 at 4:21 pm #92281
Yes, that’s the combo. No Johnson’s near us unfortunately and our dealer is being very dogmatic about the AP.October 18, 2019 at 4:24 pm #92282
Y goodness that good deal at Johnson’s Solihull £500 off I got £500 off their VWdealer next door last year

The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson CrusoeOctober 18, 2019 at 4:33 pm #92285
Onyx black with oxide leather look great in the inscription.October 18, 2019 at 4:51 pm #92290
Makes you wonder how dogmatic your dealer would be at the prospect of you cancelling the order to pick up a £500 discount elsewhere 72dudes ???
It might just be enough to tease out a little movement?October 18, 2019 at 5:02 pm #92293
Yes how far are you away from Johnson’s ? Tell your dealer can you match it or I’m off

BBC Breakfast expert, VW Golf driver.October 19, 2019 at 11:07 am #92349
The nearest Johnsons to me would be a 240 mile round trip, and the £500 off AP finishes on October 31st.
But yes, I’ll be looking around for better deals in early December.October 19, 2019 at 1:06 pm #92364
240 miles about £20 in fuel worth travelling

<p style=”text-align: left;”>You just saved me £500 huge thanks.
October 23, 2019 at 9:10 pm #93015
Glad thats of use to you, its a great discount, just be sure of when it runs to so you don’t miss out on it ?November 4, 2019 at 7:06 pm #95132
We’re looking at the Volvo XC40 R design pro but the 360 camera is £700 extra. Do you have the camera or the sensors and if only the sensors are they adequate for parking.
I am thinking of asking the dealer if he would put the camera on at a discount, what do you think – will he just laugh at me?
