Because the cost of the automatic gearbox ie in VW DSG can be £1500 extra

What Mike11 said. It’s the same across the board. The same car and spec with an automatic gearbox will pretty much always cost more than the manual alternative.

There are automatic cars with £0 AP but if you want something better/bigger/nicer, then you’re gonna have to pay.

Indeed and the unfortunate thing is an identical car in a manual and an auto in the same spec, colour, mileage etc will in 3 years time be valued very closely for resale, in some cases the same but in most (good auto boxes) only £200-£500 more. So the shortfall is charged in the original AP. The same with Diesels they will have a lower resale value so AP are high on them, then the double kick in the butt is most auto boxes favour a diesel, with some manufacturers struggling to make them work efficiently with the new 1.0 to 1.5 petrol engines so at present choice has diminished. The good news is most EV’s favour or only use Automatic so things should improve for Autos
