My wife and i have started are search for my next car, i currently have a Seat Ateca 1.6TDi SE the car i have to say has been very buggy, faulty since we took delivery (Does Emergency stops on straight road with no traffic around us, USB ports stopped working, Have had 2 new Batteries fitted but my dealer says there is nothing wrong with the car, list goes on. We’ve also had to make a complaint about the Dealer to Motability as they were not prepared to fix the car.)

Anyway we have visited a couple of other manufactures and like the Jeep Compass and Renegade. Also looked at Hyundai Tucson. Both Dealers have said metallic paint is an optional extra and is not free. All my previous cars have had free metallic paint and wondered if this has changed in the past 3 years.

Renault Grand Scenic 1.5 dci Dynamic S x2,
Skoda Yeti 1.6TDI Elegance, Seat Ateca 1.6TDI SE, Citroen C5 Aircross 12 Puretech Flair And Citroen C5 Aircross 12 Puretech C Series 1.2 Puretech Auto 200.000+miles of Happy Motoring.

I’ve always had metallic for free but have noticed that it is no longer mentioned in car search as it used to be.

VW definitely do free metallic paint and SEAT but I’m assuming you don’t want to go there again.

If I seem a little strange, that's because I am.

        Skoda Karoq SEL.

          Hi KC,

I’m afraid the people you have spoken to at the dealers are ill informed.

Standard metallic paints are free on the motability scheme, however premium metallic paints could cost extra.

I don’t think Jeep or Hyundai have premium paints looks at their websites, so all metallic’s should be included.

I recently ordered the Mazda CX-5 which the premium soul crystal red was included as free along with standard metallic’s – if the salesman goes through the system as if to place a motability order, costs of colours will show – no actual order has to be placed, but if the salesman is unsure this is how they can check and give a definitive answer.

From the motability virtual assistant –

The Ateca is a nice car but we lost confidence in the dealer and then the car unfortunately due to the service recieved. Skoda and Renault have been unbelievably supportive with any problems over the years, recalls, accidents, winter checks anything and everything first class. We only got the Seat due to the Skoda Yeti being removed from the list when we ordered.

Sounds like the dealers are trying it on metallic is definitely included, and the good dealers will usually just charge the difference if you want a special paint. Our Tucson is metallic and no charge.

Either print this or take a photo or get it up on your mobile when visiting the show room.

Doesn’t sound like dealers at all eh, trying to rip us off

Thankfully there are some good genuine ones out there too

But listen to the advice from the Mods on here and you won’t go wrong ??

Sorry about the problems with Ateca, it is one I have been considering, as need something with a seat bit higher off the ground for getting in and out.

Thanks Everyone my experience has always been Metallic Paint is Free, was just surprised at hearing contrary and lack of information on the Motability search engine. My old Renault dealer told us we couldn’t have plain colours as it reduced the resale value when they went to Auction.

The Ateca we test drove was wonderful and I only went with it as it was almost identical to the Skoda  Karoq which wasn’t out at that time we ordered, the Audi Q3 was built in the same factory and Seat being recommended as alternative to our now badly missed Skoda Yeti (Best car I or my wife had ever had) yes their like Marmite but Skoda messed up discontinuing this car.

The Seat Dealership is real a disgrace. After waiting over 4 hours for them to sort the Ateca out last time and observing and hearing how a couple of the salesman and customer service team spoke about customers and blatant sexism. We won’t go into this Seat dealership again as we stressful and not friendly which is sad as we really like the look, space and Value the New Seat Tarraco offers. We are taking our Ateca to Exeter (an almost 80 mile round trip, just so we don’t have to visit the dealership again) for its MOT before we hand it back.

If you’re choice is between these two pick the Hyundai. You’ll be in the garage more than you are now if you take the Fiat.
