When to Order

Our order window has just opened and we’re planning to order an electric Skoda Enyaq.

We still have our current Motability car and the return date is 16 May, so I’m just trying to understand how the process works.

If we order now and the new car isn’t ready by then, does Motability normally extend the lease automatically?

Also, when the new car arrives, do you return the current car to the dealer supplying the new one, or back to the original dealer?

And finally, would you recommend ordering now or waiting for the April price list, considering prices can go up or down?

Yes, if you order and delivery of the new car goes beyond May, your current car will be extended until new car delivery day

When you go to pick up your new car, that dealership will deal with the old car.  No requirement to return the car to the original dealer.

Ordering your New Enyaq, maybe someone who has recently taken delivery can help with wait times

Apparently, its been the case that if you order as soon as possible, if the AP changes, you can ask the dealer to change it to a lower price if required. Some do it no problem, a few say no. But given the changes in how the scheme works, motability dont like dealers doing this and may or may not change the rules. Either way if you are not happy you can change dealer to a more considerate one or cancel the order.

Others will add advice who have done this.

But the scheme is changing beyond all recognition in the next few months, and what was achievable before may not be in the future. Just go with current advice and enjoy the EV.

You can order 3 months before your current lease ends, so if the lease ends on 16th May your order window should have opened a month ago?

If your new car hasn’t arrived by lease end Motability will extend your lease. There’s no issue with that.

You can leave your old car with the new cars supplying dealer, even if it’s a different brand. You do not have to return it to the supplying dealership.

If you have your heart set on a particular car, and you’ve had a decent test drive in one (at least a half day unaccompanied) then it’s best to order now. APs may go up in April or, worse still, the car may be removed altogether. If you order now you will not have to pay any increased AP if it goes up and if the car is removed you can still have it. However, get the dealer to agree upfront that if the AP drops in April you’d like them to adjust the AP down on the Motability system. It takes them a couple of minutes and doesn’t affect what the dealership receives for the order, nor does it affect the actual order.

If it were me I’d be ordering now if I liked the AP on offer.  I’d also ask the dealer if they’d reorder in April if the AP drops in the new quarter, thus you’ve got the best of both outcomes.

Thank you both, that’s really helpful.

Our order window actually opened on Monday.

I haven’t done a test drive yet but to be honest I’d probably feel a bit nervous doing one, so I’ve been watching quite a few YouTube videos instead to get a feel for the car.

At the moment I’m leaning towards just going ahead and ordering the Enyaq based on that, as it seems to suit what we need.

              Really appreciate the advice 🙏

I ordered a enyaq se l 85 last week and the dealer (škoda) told me i am just in luck cause they were told that morning the AP is 2500 for that model as of april. Hope this helps

@Bk91 which one is that please? Thank you for the heads up 🙏

There seem to be so many different Enyaq versions that I’m finding it a bit confusing to understand the differences.

I can only really afford the one around £750 advance payment anyway, so I’m guessing that would be one of the lower spec versions?

Yes that’s the exact one he is talking about. It’s £750 just now and very popular as it comes with lots of equipment standard like the electric tailgate, heated steering wheel and the heated seats. I ordered it last Saturday and he said they got told that morning it will be £2500 AP in April. It’s a fair jump so glad i got it ordered!

£749 is the starting price for the SE L model going up to £2699, So which spec is going up to £2500?

If it’s the base model that’s a huge leap!

It’s the SE L 85 not sportline or edition etc. Just the £749 SE L 85 base model. It is a steep jump and it’s my first EV so hopefully all goes ok! It will be interesting to see the prices in April across the board

I would strongly advise a test drive. There have been several examples on this forum over the years where people haven’t taken a test drive, or just had a very short one, and lived to regret it. Order in haste, repent at leisure!

That being said, if you want an EV and know that it would suit your needs (e.g. you can charge at home and the comparatively limited range won’t be an issue), I think that the ŠKODA Enyaq is a great choice. I don’t know why so many manufacturers think that EV drivers want ugly cars with the addition of ugly wheels, but that seems to be the direction of many of them (including, I’m sad to say, the likes of BMW). Kia’s seem to be the other popular choice amongst scheme customers looking for EVs, but I couldn’t live with the look of their cars. Conversely the Enyaq is one of the best looking cars on the scheme IMHO and it also comes in some lovely colours, especially the blue. Good luck!

I can’t order until 19th April but have been doing some reconnaissance work on cars I hope will still be in reach as far as AP’s go and had a look at the Enyaq and both the sales rep and the manager said the base model currently at £749 is going up and whilst they said they didn’t know the exact AP from April both said it would be above £2k

Our order window opens on 12th April so we’re resigned to having to swallow whatever Q2 throws up but we have another predicament.

A lot of the offers available on BigDave’s excellent page are for immediate/quick delivery. So do we order on 12th April as normal or wait until early July and hope there’s something suitable on “in stock” offer to save some money.

Current shortlist is Chery Tiggo 8 Summit or Peugeot 5008 GT Line as we have a large powerchair to accommodate.

I’m not too sure any dealership knows what’s happening in April’s quarter change just yet.  I am more comfortable with the thought that a dealer may be applying pressure to get an order in before the quarter ends.

Mark F, yeah I get that but as 2 seperate Škoda dealers have said that the Enyaq is likely to be starting at £2k maybe more credence to it and in my case I can’t order until 19th April so nothing for them to gain in my case. Have to say I have 4 cars I like and that are currently within what I can pay for an AP but I fear I’ll be priced out of all of them. 1st April can’t come quickly enough

As it stands at the moment I wouldn’t order another Enyaq 85X, not at the current AP of £5799 or even the Edition trim, not at £4499.  There’s nothing extra in either that’s worth the difference in AP from the very well equiped SEL.

                                                  Currently my top choices are,

Toyota Urban Cruiser for £0, it’s the mid trim Design, Suzuki offer the same car (61kW battery) but it’s £1299 for the Motion base trim.

It’s got most of what I’d need and if the Enyaq is going to be £2000+ then it’ll be off the list.

                                                  Skoda Enyaq SEL at £749

BYD Atto3 2026 version with updates and a longer range, depends on AP

                                                  Smart #1 Premium at £1999

Or, the new MG S6 depending on price and if it makes it onto the scheme.

                                                    Kia EV3 Air Trim £999
