I frequently use a Tesla model 3 dual motor for work to go to London. Once the initial, “oooo this goes a bit” wears off, it’s an incredibly dull car. There is no challenge to it, no character it just does what it does.
That’s definitely NOT the case with my Mini Countryman EV. I’m a lifelong petrolhead (not just cars, but bikes and even competing in motorsport) but the Countryman has rejuvenated my love of driving. It’s comfortable and an absolute blast to drive. The fact it costs pennies to run makes it all the sweeter!

Other than the odd post repeating the same old rubbish, there’s been less hate recently. There’s some who have been vocal opponents but it’s been quite respectful of our differences.
As for negatives, they’re not all fantastic. The Vauxhalls specifically but most Stellantis cars have significant differences between WLTP and real life ranges. Having driven one, I can now agree that the regen braking can be incredibly harsh in a BMW, even when I’ve some experience of driving with it, I found the difference between Hyundai’s regen and BMW’s both on one pedal driving mode very noticeable.
It is easy right now to drive past petrol stations with a grin.

I have owned/ leased/ contract hired a whole range of ice cars over the last 62 years of driving, from small ( minis) to large ( Mk 9 Jaguar) , fwd, rwd ,awd, 2 seaters, saloons, hatchbacks, estates, vans, manual 3 ,4, 5 speed, automatic etc, etc, and have driven over a million miles , both here and abroad, and for the past 9 months I have had a fully electric Nissan Ariya, and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I would never , willingly ,take the backward step to an ice driven car
Ev ‘s are not perfect, and range limitations, charging Infrastructure etc etc does invariably take more time and planning, than previously, but the ‘ overall’ almost silent, smooth, economical drive ,is ‘by far,’ better than that of an ICE powered car , and the look on the ‘boy racer’s faces’, as I silently leave them standing at the traffic lights is priceless!
I wonder if the government will start a driveway tax to help level up especially for disabled people It’s doesn’t seem fair that a disabled person with a driveway and a free car gets such a discount on thier travel when next door there is an able bodied person without a drive has to pay so much more for thier motoring
I mean if you can afford a driveway you can afford the driveway tax If I remember right labour were going to tax you if you had a car parking space at work.

Wood pecker I’m not trolling anyone but the government remember the bedroom tax if the government are loosing money from fuel duty they are going to come up with all sorts of hair brained schemes and the “free car” is using irony we all know on here it’s not free but you do understand how the others see us thanks to the daily mail
No need for a driveway tax, the Govt has already put in place new taxation to cover fuel duty loss – the 3p per mile tax on EV’s and 1.5p per mile on plug-in hybrids. I’ve seen some naïve folk think that would be paid by Motability….lol.
In EV running cost terms its pretty hefty, doubling average charging costs if you have the aforementioned driveway and off-peak home charging. Don’t forget that once implemented, the tax will increase over time, pretty much as other taxes inevitably have.
The same tax on ICE cars is around 5.3p per mile. The rest of the taxation (about 1.6p per mile) you see on petrol is VAT.
