We are now into April and its likely there will be no negotiations until this pandemic is over. What are we looking at, could we survive on WTO rules, will we ask for an extension?

I think the obvious option is to agree an extension possibly to next March to give both sides a chance to come to an agreement. I think the German’s will be very keen to get a deal.

44 million Terry’s Chocolate Oranges are sold each year.
You can find them in seven countries: Great Britain, Ireland, United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

9 million UK households buy a Terry’s Chocolate Orange each year,
making it one of the UK’s favourite chocolates.

now made by Carambar & Co! in france which used to me made in the uk, like many other items.

This note provides basic figures on UK trade with the EU. The attached Excel spreadsheet (see under Supporting documents) allows for easy access and presentation of detailed 2019 data on UK trade with indiviual EU member states, as well as trade trends between 1999 and 2019.

          Main points:

The EU, taken as a whole is the UK’s largest trading partner. In 2019, UK exports to the EU were £294 billion (43% of all UK exports). UK imports from the EU were £374 billion (52% of all UK imports).
The share of UK exports accounted for by the EU has generally fallen over time from 54% in 2002 to 43% in 2019.
The share of UK imports accounted for by the EU fell from 57% in 2006 to 52% in 2019.
The UK had an overall trade deficit of -£79 billion with the EU in 2019. A surplus of £18 billion on trade in services was outweighed by a deficit of -£97 billion on trade in goods.
The UK had a trade surplus of £49 billion with non-EU countries. A surplus of £83 billion on trade in services outweighed a deficit of -£34 billion on trade in goods.
Services accounted for 42% of the UK’s exports to the EU in 2019. Financial services and other business services (a category which includes legal, accounting, advertising, research and development, architectural, engineering and other professional and technical services) are important categories of services exports to the EU.

It’s done, it’s gone, it’s finished.  So maybe we can stop talking about it now.  Happy New Year to all in our newly independent United Kingdom!

Yes yes, all done, now we have another choice between carry on whining or just get on with it for better or worse.

Anyone want to buy some new rusty BL cars?
