What other options do I have?

      Hi all,

I was wondering what options I might have. The enyaq i have ordered is due to take potentially longer and I might not get it till November time, which is a long time.

What other cars have the same features and can handle a 150kg Apex assist hoist?

The features I care about, remote park assist, predictive cruise control, auto slowing down for speed limits in cruise control, surround cameras and it has to have similar range to enyaq. Also an electric tailgate. Also it needs to be an electric only car.

The EV5 isnt an option as it doesnt have surround camera. I ideally dont want to spend a ton of money on the AP no more than what I am paying now (which is alot) thats £6.7K AP.

Thats really worrying as that has some legal ramifications if you getting into an accident. You probably want that in writing. The issue is if thats a 100kg hoist then that will be overstrained each time its lifting it. This is quite serious and now I am concerned as my powerchair weighs the same as yours

I recently paid to have a 150kg Apex Assist in an Enyaq. However after a week or so I noticed this sticker (see photos). I rang MB and they told me to phone installer. The hoist has a serial number so instead I thought I’d phone JG first. I told lady on phone I had a JG hoist fitted but not the kg rating. I quoted the SN and asked her whether it was a 100kg or 150kg hoist. She goes off to check and says 100kg, then asks which vehicle it’s for and I said Enyaq and she says oh err I need to check with someone. She then comes back and said I can’t speak to you any further you need to speak to installer! So I phone installer and asks him he’s says JG wouldn’t rate the frame at 150kg for the Enyaq. But he assures me in ‘his opinion’ frame can handle 120kg, and 100kg and 150kg are identical and use the same size actuators. So I says what was the point in me paying an extra £50 for 150kg hoist? He was silent and I didn’t bother pushing the issue. Btw my wc weighs 110kg.

From what I understand, is the hoist is the same (only 1 hoist in reality) across both weight catergories, that can lift a maximum weight of upto 150kg, but some vehicles are limited to 100kg due to the restrictions within the vehicle and fixing plate type.

Therefore the installer is right that actuators are the same because the hoist has a maximum lifting capacity of 150kg and the maximum weight limit can be derated depending on the vehicle.

I can see that. But I don’t really see why MB have two different prices for the same kg rated ‘transferable’ boot hoist.

The lifting capacity is as you say only as good as it’s weakest link, aka hoist or frame or boot mounting points.

                    As Kezo says.

But engineering these lifts, there is a lot of leeway, and over engineered.

They are not going to fail if you go over the specified weight slightly.

They are only going to be used for 3 years and then scrapped.

The installer will know better than the manufacturer what the real world values are. The installer will  also repair them as well.

He will know what the cars can take and what the hoist can manage.

The difference would be the fixing plate and to some extent marketing

The apex assist is a nice hoist.
