Hi all,
I was wondering what options I might have. The enyaq i have ordered is due to take potentially longer and I might not get it till November time, which is a long time.
What other cars have the same features and can handle a 150kg Apex assist hoist?
The features I care about, remote park assist, predictive cruise control, auto slowing down for speed limits in cruise control, surround cameras and it has to have similar range to enyaq. Also an electric tailgate. Also it needs to be an electric only car.
The EV5 isnt an option as it doesnt have surround camera. I ideally dont want to spend a ton of money on the AP no more than what I am paying now (which is alot) thats £6.7K AP.

Have you ordered something specific you cannot/ do not want to compromise? If this is not the case simply go online and check their stock – this is how I bought mine.

Motability VW Touran Family Pack May 2019 (happy customer)May 29, 2026 at 6:29 pm #361805It was the 85x sportline with the maxx pack. The remote parking feature is kinda a needed thing as my driveway is really tight with my partners car on there too. Also the HUD is beneficial. Both of those features are only on the maxx pack, and the 85x has been removed from the scheme and it would cost too much to add it to the 85. And my dealer has told me they can’t allocate me exisitng stock as the 85x isnt on the scheme anymore.
May 29, 2026 at 7:29 pm #361807Sadly with the Politically motivated direction that Motability is taking, we may not see a lot of high spec/high AP vehicle’s appearing and sticking around on their list for very long, as I found out.
I wish you good luck in finding something that suits your needs, as I know how difficult it is, Or if you can, it may be better to be patient and fortunate that you are getting one of the last few suitable cars with everything that you need, albeit with a very high AP.
Hopefully someone else on here can be of more practical help.
May 29, 2026 at 8:22 pm #361808Top EV5 if on the scheme, but doesn’t get fully self park only back and forth on keyfob.
May 29, 2026 at 8:56 pm #361810Sadly the gt line s isnt available on it
May 29, 2026 at 9:05 pm #361811In a handful of weeks a new quarter begins. Just wait and see what is available at that time.
Its a bit dry at the moment, maybe by July it will improve….jeez I hope so…
May 29, 2026 at 10:49 pm #361814How many miles a year you think you will be doing and do you take the current Motability car abroad or planning to take the new one?
If you do less than 10,000 miles per annum and don’t take the car abroad, @Woodpecker suggestion to wait until July and see what will be on the scheme is one of the options to consider.

May 30, 2026 at 12:12 am #361817Sorry can’t answer your question. Mind I have a few thoughts on your must haves.
Self parking. It sounds like the parking you need the car to do isn’t straight forward, no pun intended. I have it on my car and any thing but basic parking just confuses it and it just says nah. Also when I went to order the car and the dealer was telling me about spec, when it came to self parking his exact words were ‘by the time it parks in your drive you could have went in and made a cup of tea’. He’s right it just takes to long. And TBF I can’t see other models being much different. I’m in a scenic etech.
Surround cameras. I’m going to presume you’ve managed before without them, maybe you still can. I have it and never use it tbh. Surely everyone whether disabled or not should be able to park a car with mirrors alone. Oh and the parking sensors will get you to with an inch of anything when you learn them, ie the different tones and how long they beep for.
I’m not having a go. I just think that some car tech is just making us lazy, and some is useless and hoping me saying this opens up more cars for you to look at.
May 30, 2026 at 1:04 am #361819Kia PV5…..you will not know until you have had a test drive..

If you are looking for options, is there any reason you appear wedded to the Motability scheme (financial, insurance record, age etc)?
If not, why not purchase a suitable vehicle, even if by utilising HP or personal bank loan etc? You said you have a partner so you maybe able to use joint income levels to assist borrowings. If you are a full time chair user, then explore the vat-free vehicles concession to reduce the cost if buying brand new ( @glos-guy is rather the expert with this).
That way you have the entire market of vehicles to choose from, not just the vehicles the scheme offers which you seem to be having difficulty with.
Yes, you may initially pay more for your adaptions (although you can of course negotiate with an installer), but once fitted you can keep them for your ‘life’ with the vehicle which maybe many years, with the possibility of moving them to a subsequent vehicle down the line. Plus you will have no mileage restrictions or large bills for exceeding mileage limits.
Worth considering?
May 30, 2026 at 7:20 am #361823Its less self parking more remote parking, we have a very tight driveway so moving it forward is kinda a must being a wheelchair user, as itll enable me to get in and out far easier.
In terms of surround cameras, its the same as before, its insanely difficult without them espeically wity me having hand controls this time.
May 30, 2026 at 7:22 am #361824Its the height as its a bit too tall, and then width adds further width on our driveway which will cause other issues. I was interested in it for a little while but those issues were quite difficult.
May 30, 2026 at 7:24 am #361825Its financial reasons, I am not in a place to take on a loan at this stage, so motability is better for me, as my needs are quite variable and theres a risk I may not be able to drive with the same adaptations. Atleast motability is better in that regard.
Also the hoist i require does limit my options alot anyway
May 30, 2026 at 9:04 am #361829Ioniq 5? Similar range, good spec and the boot is only 65 litres smaller if my Maths is right(?)

In that case, your options are limited to Motability. You just have to make the most of what is on offer at a reasonable AP.
Probably more test drives to see what is best and try for a stock car, or keep an eye on Big Daves specials.
May 30, 2026 at 9:42 am #361834The boot shape of the ioniq sadly means it can only do a 80kg folding hoist, my chair is 110kg. I did really like the ioniq which is a shame.
May 30, 2026 at 10:30 am #361842In these cases I normally do some mental maths with pen and paper: what I want and the percentage of how critical it is for me. Then I add a cost next to each requirement.
Perhaps you will find out some things are not as critical and adding the rest to the Enyaq on the scheme won’t cost you arm and leg.

There is a far more choice of cars with 360 surround view, than there is with self or remote parking. Do you really need the parking feature with 360 view camera? And too be honest, car I have seen with self park are slow and clumbersome and I’m normally parked and half way and on my way to the shop by the time the self park car, has parked itself.
Brig Ayd do a 120kg hoist (evotech), that would lift your chair along with opening you up to more choice of cars, than with a 150kg hoist. Check installers/manufacturers websites for a smaller hoist.
Depending how far you travel in one journey, a Plug in Hybrid with a decent electric range and faster charging option i.e VW Group or China.com, will give you decent range, whilst opening up more choice.
May 30, 2026 at 11:14 am #361849I’m into my third year of an Enyaq sportline with maxx pack and Adaptive suspension.
As it was the just post covid, ut took longer to arrive and when ut did,but was a two wheel drive version, a model that actually at that tine didn’t exie5
Tge auto park, tge wife usdc for a while as needed to reverse onto the drive, miss the otger car and the gate posts, but now she juet uses the 360 camera and sensors.
We have been very happy with the 2wd and possibly looking at another to replace it
If you already have a motorbility car, you will keep that until your enyaq is ready.
Why tge tine has moved could be that skida are updating the spec in August, so don’t have a large volume of built cars, m8st companies now build to order.
Sumner shutdown is August and that’s when changes to track .occur
You then have a slow build up, as new parts need to be learnt to build and any ussues putty bed
May 30, 2026 at 11:16 am #361850So it may seem strange but the 150kg Apex assist hoist is more compact than the brig ayd 120kg hoist. Mobility in motion will not even do above 100kg in the enyaq whilst Des Gosling can do the 150kg Apex assist hoist. So if the enyaq cant handle most boots won’t.
If it were like Kia where it can just pull in and out with fob tgat would be good too. Theres plenty of times where i am basically trapped because theres no disabled spaces so then ill park in a space but then people park too close, or even in a disabled space, people park too close then I can’t get in and out of my car (I have to use a manual wheelchair as well as the powerchair as ill use the manual wheelchair once I put the powerchair away, and ill use transfer plates so need a full door opening), the only way i can do that is with a remote parking so I can move it forward or backwards.
So far I am thinking ill just have to tough it up and wait a few more months as it seems I dont really have any option here.
May 30, 2026 at 11:17 am #361851I get migraines from petrol or diesel that can get so bad it would make me a danger on the roads plus one pedal drive is a god send on hand controls.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I fully understand, being in a similar situation.
I think that is the major problem, that many on here who have tried to help, are seeing it from a non wheelchair or able bodied driver position, which is certainly no criticism of anyone.
What is so aggravating, is what hope do we have of Motability or a Government fully understanding the severity of disabled Motability customer’s needs, when they try and tell us that there are hundreds of cars on the scheme with no AP’s, as if to say, “no problem, unless you are looking for a car for pure luxury, rather than needs”.
Why can’t they wake up to the fact that Motability was originally created to help people like ourselves who cannot simply get by with a basic car with no AP. Because we are so disabled and we have to (not want to) pay thousands more to get a car that comes with the non luxury, but essential items, to make our lives and travel viable, due to the fact that the Mobility allowance of the benefit is limited to a finite amount, which limits the type of car that the benefit can cover, without having to pay a AP for a car to meet your needs. All wheelchair disabled people are not all best catered for by WAV’s, which can also cost thousands to cover AP’s.
The Government and Motability, contrary to their remit, seem hell bent on systematically depriving us of having the choice by adding our own money to get a car that meets our individual essential needs, when there are now so many suitable cars out there on the market, but not allowed onto the Motability list of available cars.
Their actions are for no purposeful or credible reason other than meeting their own selfish propaganda needs.

May 30, 2026 at 4:52 pm #361889I recently paid to have a 150kg Apex Assist in an Enyaq. However after a week or so I noticed this sticker (see photos). I rang MB and they told me to phone installer. The hoist has a serial number so instead I thought I’d phone JG first. I told lady on phone I had a JG hoist fitted but not the kg rating. I quoted the SN and asked her whether it was a 100kg or 150kg hoist. She goes off to check and says 100kg, then asks which vehicle it’s for and I said Enyaq and she says oh err I need to check with someone. She then comes back and said I can’t speak to you any further you need to speak to installer! So I phone installer and asks him he’s says JG wouldn’t rate the frame at 150kg for the Enyaq. But he assures me in ‘his opinion’ frame can handle 120kg, and 100kg and 150kg are identical and use the same size actuators. So I says what was the point in me paying an extra £50 for 150kg hoist? He was silent and I didn’t bother pushing the issue. Btw my wc weighs 110kg.
