Hi All,
Apologies if this has been asked before. Struggling to find any similar posts.
I’m looking to get the Tiguan 1.5 DSG in the Elegance Model. Seems to be the best value in terms of AP and what you’re getting as standard.
My only concern was the MPG figures on the car.
Is there any owners here who could confirm what sort of MPG’s they are getting?
Would be interested to know what it is like for local driving mainly as I do more local driving compared to motorway. Also if you have any ideas of the range you get from a full tank, it would really help for me to determine if this is the right car for me.
Thanks,

This is the ‘real’ MPG figures from Honest John:
May 24, 2021 at 2:45 pm #153267Fuel tank size is 58 litres, so at 33.9mpg you can expect 433 miles full to empty.

IzzyWe have a Vw Tiguan 1.5 DSG elegance.
So far the car has been driven around 2800 miles since November, our journeys are always local and are getting about 25-28 mpg.

IzzyFilled the tank and reset the trip meter full tank gave us 325 miles.
not very good but I was expecting this so can’t complain.

SimonI have struggled to get over 30 mpg. That is the only reason I am changing to EV.
May 24, 2021 at 8:27 pm #153291Ouch…
The full tank range is pretty poor by sounds of it.Has anyone managed to find a similar vehicle which has the extras like the Elegance (Particularly: Pan Roof, Rev Cam and Heated Seats) with a better fuel economy?
May 24, 2021 at 9:01 pm #153293Yes mpg terrible that’s why on March 16 th I picked up my Toyota CHR design with heated seats sat nav park assist 18 inch alloys keyless etc etc for £795 amazing mpg it’s mostly in electric mode on my country roads

SimonHave a look at the Kona electric, has everything on your list and the AP is £499.

ChrisMDifferent engine, 2L diesel dsg, mostly town driving get regularly 40+ mpg, range of 475 mile on full tank
Motorway sat at 65 – 70 mpg get average close to 50mpg

John morrisAteca with the same 1.5tsi engine laid with dsg and we get 37mpg. Mainly 50mph roads around me so not a lot of town driving as the closest town is very small haha. Can get 40mpg+ in eco mode
May 25, 2021 at 11:41 am #153337
ReneI’ve got an Ateca Excellence Lux (MY19), same engine and gearbox. I manage 39 to 46 mpg. The Tiguan is slightly heavier, so the milage would drop a bit, but absolutely not to 25mpg. It of course depends very much on the type of journey you do, but if the amount of driving is barely enough to get the engine warm (and at 25mpg that’s the case) it’s not surprising that you dont get much out of it. The route llantwit major to bridgend (plug it into google maps to get an idea) is around 40mpg indicated, not in eco mode, sporty driving. As said: it all depends on the type of driving.
May 25, 2021 at 12:01 pm #1533402020 Ateca X-Lux 1.5TSI non-DSG
Around 35mpg round the doors, on a longer run (10+ miles) on A roads upto 42mpg. I did a 120 mile round trip a few weeks ago on mainly 60mph A roads and only got 36mpg which was worse than my previous brick shaped Yeti 🙁

Tim27mpg here.

John MorrisThere seems to be a big difference between the Ateca which people have said to be 35-45mpg and the Tiguan which is a lot less. A small selection I know but still odd.
May 25, 2021 at 9:56 pm #153397Totally agree with the comments regarding the Ateca mpg
Recent trip to Kent (Orpington) from North Wales and return saw an average of 43mpg
Regularly see 35 + local

Selenium greyMay 25, 2021 at 11:12 pm #153398I have a repeat of the last 120 mile round trip again tomorrow, weather is forecast to be very wet so that should keep my speed down!, I’ll see if it’s any better than the last time.
Mostly 60mph single carriageway, A68 to A69 then a short bit of dual carriageway and back onto the A68 again up to Otterburn Army Camp, back tomorrow tea time (assuming we don’t get washed away or buried in the mud!)
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

Clipped wingsEmerging from lockdown, have racked up 1100 miles in the Allspace SEL 1.5 dsg. Longer trips @ 36 mpg @ 75 mph ish cruise. Eco mode helps plus 2 cylinder deactivation. Drops to 27-30 mpg on short local trips. The Touran SEL 1.4 dsg was about 5 mpg better. Heavier Allspace has different dsg programming at town speeds. @30 mph, 1500 rpm in 4th vs 1200 rpm in 5th in the Touran. It is a big car, so I think quite acceptable and also very refined. Extremely happy with the Allspace and its excellent standard equipment.

John Morris<p style=”text-align: left;”>Yes but not that big as to get 10mpg less than the Ateca. No way anyone should get less than 30mpg with this 1.5tsi engine. I can’t believe that Seat have set the car up so differently to VW. The Ateca already handles and drives better than the Tiguan (test drive both Tiguan and T-roc) and with a 10mpg saving!! I would be having it checked out myself.

May 26, 2021 at 11:43 am #154014These MPG are a bit confusing and don’t mean a lot unless we’re told what fuel is being burnt.
The overall weight of the car plays its part and what you carry does too for instance I’ve always got my mobility scooter on board that weighs in around 43 Kg and takes off at least 3 MPG in every car that I’ve used.
One other consideration is how we get these MPG figures as on board computers can be way out with my KIA computer for example recording about 6 MPG under the true MPG figurer and I calculate the true number by a PC program of how many litres of fuel bought to how many miles travel in a cumulative spread sheet and as more time goes by the MPG becomes even more accurate.
Emerging from lockdown, have racked up 1100 miles in the Allspace SEL 1.5 dsg. Longer trips @ 36 mpg @ 75 mph ish cruise. Eco mode helps plus 2 cylinder deactivation. Drops to 27-30 mpg on short local trips. The Touran SEL 1.4 dsg was about 5 mpg better. Extremely happy with the Allspace and its excellent standard equipment.
Thanks Clipped wings for those Allspace numbers as its number one on my list should it still be on the system in two months time at a reasonable AP and 36 MPG long haul and 27 > 30 sort haul sounds about right for such a heavy work horse,, assuming your talking petrol., and will be a very capable car for the duties it has to do for myself and my disability.

John morris<p style=”text-align: left;”>We all know the fuel on the 1.5tsi is petrol so we can get a a very good idea and my mpg hardly drops when I carry all 5 of us. Still easily get 35mpg with a heavy foot. A bit of weight won’t make the mpg 33% worse will it? Obviously there’s an issue somewhere.

May 26, 2021 at 4:51 pm #154045
John morrisAnd 27mpg for a mainstream family car is terrible. Not had such bad mpg since the the late 90s! Qasgqai 1.5tdi we were getting 58 average. 27 is terrible for a 1.5 petrol
May 26, 2021 at 6:08 pm #154053OK so, early morning trip (6:30am) mainly A roads, reasonable traffic Durham up to Otterburn 32.2mpg
Journey back 14:00 light traffic and mostly down bank 36.4mpg, I had peaks of over 42mpg on the longer quiet stretches but final economy was back in the mid 30’s.
The 1.2 petrol manual Yeti would easily do 36 going up and 38-41 coming back.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

Clipped wingsHi ChrisK. You should then be ordering the facelift model for autumn delivery. Will be called Elegance instead of SEL and should keep all the standard goodies. Gets those touchy sliders for the climate panel. The boot has a higher load height than the touran but my hoist works well. Mexican build quality just fine so far! Stop start and ACC better calibrated than Touran, but still unsuited to heavy motorway traffic imho. lane assist a surprisingly forceful tug if you don’t indicate – as if!
Returned this evening from a 200 mile round trip, A31, M27, M3 plus some snarled urban hell at the other end. Brimmed the tank on return to get an accurate overall mpg of 37.5 mpg and the trip computer said 37.9. Engine loosening up perhaps. My 2005 2.2 diesel CRV returned 38 mpg on my long motorway commute but at lower speeds 45+ mpg. A brick, but never let me down over 80,000 miles.

ReneI’d wait with the Allspace – a new one is very close to release. If that comes to the scheme in close to elegance spec, it’s gonna top our shortlist too. For the external ambient lighting alone.
May 27, 2021 at 9:20 pm #154132
ReneAnd of course we are talking petrol – we’re all talking about the same engine, the 1.5 TSI – used in Seat, Skoda, VW and Audi cars.
