Hi Allan
It is an overlay just like Pocket GPS
The thing about POIbase there database is not as good as Pocket GPS
I also have TomTom Speed camera app on my phone but when my phone is connected to the car via USB it does give the alert sound as AA cuts out other notifications

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I have Tom Tom as well but without a phone cradle it’s hard to see what’s going on. With pocketgps without alerts it means constantly looking at the screen or using Tom Tom for the alerts so more data being used.</p>
For now I think I will stick with Google maps. Until we can get speed cameras and alerts on the VW satnav.May 12, 2019 at 11:49 am #76630Hi Allan
I have a Brodit clip and use a universal passive holder so my phone is on display
It is weird. The TomTom speed camera app alerts do not come over the media but I also have TomTom Go mobile on my phone and that plays the announcement over the media system

I think overall, my wife’s Garmin stand alone sat nav with lifetime updates, built in speed camera alerts, real time traffic and uses no phone data is a better system.Other than the VW display looking good, with no speed camera alerts and maps that are not up to date regarding road speed limits it’s a good job it comes with the SEL version. If I had paid extra for the VW system I would not be impressed.
(I have not updated my maps because looking on tiguan forums the version I have is the best of the recent bunch)
May 12, 2019 at 12:27 pm #76633Hi Allan
Do not update your maps
My wife liked my Tiguan so much she traded het 18 plate Golf in and got a new Tiguan 2.0TDi 2WD Match DSG and she has got the old maps on hers and the speed limits are correct on her version

This file is a zip file, you just extract the folder inside and place on usb drive (folder name is PersonalPOI) then plug usb drive into the car, then go to menu, settings and import poi from usb.
Then all you have to do is go through poi options in car select the cameras and then in nav settings select my poi (make sure it’s ticked) for warnings then that’s it they will appear on your screen and give you audible warnings before getting to cameras.
I will update this every couple of months personally as i have bought the software to do the conversion, I just wanted to make it easier for all of you to do.

Clipped wingsWhile can be useful, police forces are in the process of introducing a new hand held that can read a number plate at 750 meters, take a video and upload for prosecution, all automatically. Day and night. Caveat emptor.
