Volvo xc40 tyre pump in the boot

Today I wanted to check the tyre pressure on the Volvo xc40, (they seem over inflated), after finding the electric pump in the boot, my intention was just to read the gauge to learn the tyre pressure..

However a message to anyone who may not be familiar to the process, the actual tube with valve adapter is separate and not connected to the pump, it’s folded and inserted underneath the pump.

This being a first for me..

I then discovered the valve adapting tube must be inserted into the pump and twist locked, however the port to insert the valve adapting tube is covered by a sticker that needs removing to be revealed…

Good job it was dry daylight, wouldn’t fancy working that out in the night time in bad weather..

So worth checking you know the process of how to do it..

@ajn does the Volvo not have TPM? Good advice though ajn. I bought a ring tyre inflator from Halford’s. Its really good and no faffing. Just connect to tyre valve and set pressure. It will Beep when set pressure is reached. Then reset TPM.

Morning Joss, it does have a tyre pressure check on screen, which is in the green, so I guess that’s fine if tyre pressure isn’t low.

Thing is after reading on some forums it’s  mentioned that the dealers sometimes max the tyre pressure.

So not showing any problems, just the pot holes and speeds bumps come with a jolt, and with increased tyre pressure results in constant correction of driving line I find.

Ill get a pic of the sticker position later as it will be easier to other readers…

There are instructions on the face of the pump, but if like me forgot the glasses or at night it’s hard to find the connection port?

                  So just to recap..

Remove the valve-tube adaptor underneath the pump…

Peel back sticker hiding the connection port (see photo above)..

Place sticker on hand, head, chin or anything else available.

Now place correct end into port twist and lock, then proceed with usual connections..

Inflate to recommended pressure, refit opposite to set up instructions for storage..???

I think you forgot about that little wire twist holding the coiled up electric lead, ajn.  Wrap it round your little finger for use later, or you’ll never get that lead to stay back in place.
