Its happening and its happening fast, full electrification is on its way!

Volkswagen will produce its final range of fossil-fuel engines in 2026, with plans to shift its focus to fully-electric vehicles
Volkswagen has given its clearest time-frame yet on its plans to switch to pure-electric vehicles by announcing that it will introduce its final generation of combustion engine platform in 2026.

The German brand’s chief of strategy, Michael Jost, told an industry conference at VW’s headquarters, “In the year 2026 will be the last product start on a combustion engine platform.” That year would tally with the rough launch date of the Mk9 Golf, based upon the Mk8’s likely arrival in 2019 and the usual seven-year model cycle.

    Ben

Whilst I applaud any efforts to get rid of fossil fuel use 2026 just seems far too soon.

Batteries just aren’t where they need to be to achieve it. That’s not just the car industry it’s across most industries. Mobile phones, laptops etc

Unless there are major advancements in battery technology or self charging via braking/kinetic etc then 2026 is a pipe dream.

There are some interesting things going on with battery technology at the moment though with the first graphene products beginning to hit markets and and experimental graphene supercapacitator running buses in Serbia.

    Which Mobility Car

Don’t worry, it costs a lot to develop and produce a new engine, if they are starting in 2026 then it will be tweaked a couple of times and still be avaialble in 2040 when the UK Government will stop the sale of new cars that are petrol or diesel powered.
